It had actually taken Cole some time to find him, which was unusual since on a given day there were a few normal places that Guy might be found. One of them, pleasingly enough, was with Cole. Which actually was the case again once he finally spotted him in the woods and approached.

"I hope that's something good," he said, and it was unclear whether he meant the wine or the book or something else entirely.

"I hope so too," Guy said, with a wide grin as he patted the spot next to him, indicating Cole should sit. "Wouldn't want to poison this island's greatest composer."

"Oh, do go on," Cole said. "Go on and pour me a glass while you're at it."

Guy did pour him a glass and refilled his own. "I tried these - or something very similar to these - years ago. We had mixed the mushrooms with mango liquor at the time." Some wry fondness spread on his face as he thought of Billy. (Good people shouldn't be allowed to leave the island. Poor man.) "I remember it being quite fun, but he didn't take it well. Shell shock came back to him."

"You don't have to worry about me," Cole said, taking the glass. "I was never a soldier, just liked to wear the fancy uniforms from time to time."

Guy smiled again. "No, I didn't think it was possible to shock you very much."

"Though I will take you up on the dressing up. It's been ages since I've buggered a senior officer," he added with a wink.

Cole groaned. "Don't tease me so. Or if you're not, I might demand you find a uniform this very minute, if you didn't look so awfully comfortable already." He smiled.

"I never tease," Guy replied with a cocky grin, shifting. In one motion he positioned his head on Cole's lap and lay stretched out on the cloth. "I am comfortable, though."

Cole sighed and stroked his fingers through Guy's hair. "You know, I'm not sure I could actually tell if you were high. I think maybe you'd act about the same."

Guy set down the glass beside him, comfortable enough to close his eyes and enjoy the fingers through his hair. He loved that.

"Perhaps. Perhaps I've never been sober in my life," he murmured. "Actually, I think that's true."

"I think I've seen you sober," said Cole. A little smile curved his lips. "Now here's a song. I like you high enough to love me and sober enough to know it's true."
