Bad ideas; a relative concept. To doctors, hypochondriacs and the careful, this would be a decidedly bad idea. To someone whose nature had always been self-destructive and who had decided some time ago that he didn’t care if he lived or died in this place, this was just a bit of fun.

It was liberating, in a way, this carelessness. Guy had spent so ( Read more... )

"Anthony's friend, isn't it?" Luce announces as she comes across him, tipping her head to the side to regard him curiously, an interested look on her face. "The one who thinks I secretly want to screw him?" she estimates, best as she can.

It was an accomplishment to get Guy to choke on his drink, and Guy would indeed have applauded it, had he not been chocking on his drink.

"Never, never bring up that sort of image again." He coughed. "I have a horridly vivid imagination. Well, not 'horridly' usually, but in this particular case, that is the only and kindest word I can think of."

"Well, just know that I'm not content to be fucked," she remarks, as blase as a woman can be when discussing such things. "I'd definitely have to be the one penetrating, but I'll stop to prevent your delicate brain from scarring. And don't worry, it's fairly horrible, even to me."

"You seem insistent in ruining lunch," Guy pouted, glancing at his glass (the only lunch he was having). "Now I know why Anthony likes you."

"Is he also a lunch-ruiner?" she asks, as pleasantly as she can be, eyeing what he's drinking and giving him a curious look. "I'm going to take a wild stab and say that what you have there is alcoholic," she muses, giving him a curious look. "Am I far off the mark?"

"Not far at all. I would, in fact, say you're spot on," Guy admitted, none too guilty. "A fresh new batch of palm wine, to which - for that extra and much needed afternoon buzz - I have added some herbs and a tiny speck of mushroom mush - hence the slightly murky look of it." He lifted his glass. "I have another glass; you're free to try it."

"When you say tiny speck, how tiny are we talking?" It's a silly question considering she's going to do it no matter what, but some pragmatic part of her is insisting that she ask. Maybe because it will balance out her reckless need to lose her inhibitions right now.

"Never ask a chef for his recipe," Guy replied to that, mainly because he didn't bother himself much with exact quantities. "Ask him instead if he would consider you for ginuea pig," he asked with a broad grin, already pouring her a glass.

Luce purses her lips and then twists them as though she's deliberating this far more than she actually needs to. "I'm assuming the reward for such a task is inherent in being the guinea pig?" she says, already holding out a hand in tacit agreement.

"What else are we on this island? We are its test subjects, its amusement," Guy said, philosophically, before nudging her. "Darling, just have your drink. Cheers!" And with that he took a sip of his own.

"Sir, yes, sir," she replies, mock-seriously as she takes the drink and knocks a good sip of it back, making a face at the wholly unexpected taste of it. "Good god, what on earth have you been brewing?"

Guy laughed and leaned back on the tree. "I can't tell you, it's secret. Also, I don't remember. It was weeks ago." He took a gulp himself. "Acquired Taste, I would call it... I think."

"Well, all I want to know is will it get me drunk?" Luce demands, because she's in dire need of that. "If not, then I'm going to have to go and do as many shots as they'll feasibly let me at the Hub. Do you know what that number is, incidentally? It's always good to know in advance."

"Too little. They're far too pleased with their standards and rules. I make some liquor for them as well. Not this. Apparently it doesn't sell," Guy joked.

"This will get you drunk and quite possibly will make you see things that aren't really there."

"You're my hero," she says in a way that makes it seem like a rather practical pronouncement. She takes another long sip and lets out a pleased sound from the very base of her throat. "How's it work when it comes to blotting out things you don't want to acknowledge?"

Guy laughed, but it was bitter, understanding all too well what she meant. "It works, worry not. Drink to oblivion, never to excess."

He took a rather large gulp himself. "Acquired Taste is an appropriate title, wouldn't you say?"
