Sam twisted experimentally and winced as the pain that raced along his back and side. If he was careful he generally only felt a dull ache but being Sam, he was sometimes not that careful even with a fresh wound and the stitches often pulled. He'd definitely have to forgo any running and his training with Sonya for a bit, at least until the wound ( Read more... )

"If you weren't my student, I'd search the bookshelf for you." Sonya said as she walked through the door. "But then from what I've heard-you kind of deserve to be bored."

It was hard to tell if she was glaring at him because of what he and Coraline did, or just the smell of the clinic was making her even more nausiated. The fact that she still continued to teach Coraline and Sam kept her from complete boredom, and now she was one short-it was also less taxing and annoying that the Rapture patrols.

"Seriously, does everybody missed the part where I got injured saving someone?" Sam asked. He was glad to see Sonya, even if he felt a bit guilty about getting injured. He didn't want people to think she had trained him poorly because if anything, it was because of her that he was even alive.

"Because we were picking fruit. And we did try to run away first. We did everything short of letting it kill us to avoid hurting it."

"Doesn't erase the fact that you were attacked in the first place." She said, trying to seperate her concern from the fact that she could feel another puking session was about to come up. "And because if I know Coraline as well as I do-'picking fruit' was only a cover up reason."

If coraline really did want to pick fruit, there was a garden and orchird well within walking distance of the compound.

"Hey, the picking fruit was my idea," Sam said. He knew a lot of people thought Coraline was mischief waiting to happen, and maybe she was, but Sam didn't want her taking heat for something that wasn't her fault.

"I asked her to come help because I needed someone to carry some of the fruit. The only reason she agreed was because it got her out of her room during her grounding."

He had a good point.

"What happened, exactly?" She asked, a little less severe-though in truth it was more that her concern left her even more drained if that was possible. "Wild boar are tempermental but they only attack if they feel threatened, or you caught one during its mating season."

She took a seat in a nearby chair.

"If it was mating season, then that boar's come on was entirely unwelcome and more than a little inappropriate," Sam said. Although if he had disrupted some boar trying to get his game on, he was going to feel a little bit. As a currently non-sexually active teenage guy with a smoking hot girlfriend, he could understand why that would make the boar a little testy.

"We were going through the woods to some spots I knew had fruit plants and trees. We were picking some berries the boar charged out of a bush at us."

Sonya was about to respond to that when she shook her head. She wasn't feeling so bad that she couldn't pick out a joke when she heard on.

"My guess is it thought you were intruding on his territory." But then, it was an animal, and those were by nature unpredictable.

"You want anything from the kitchen?" The nausea was still lingering but now she also wanted something to eat-except anything with boar.

“Yeah, I think I probably need to take some wilderness survival courses,” Sam admitted. He hadn’t exactly grown up in a rural environment and his attempt at joining the Boy Scouts hadn’t ended so well.

“And food would be great. Anything with protein would be good. I kind of lost a little bit of blood.”

He and her both.

All the books and Lipton's notes stressed that. Sonya thought she'd had nutrition pounded into her head in Special Forces training, but now it was even more vital. Now if only should could manage to eat without worrying if it was going to come right back up.

She nodded and headed to the kitchen, hoping to find something quick for them to eat. Sandwiches seemed the best bet, and she quickly rummaged through the pantry and fridge: peanut butter and jam for her, boar meat sandwhich for him.

Sonya wrapped the sandwhiches up in paper napkins and returned to the clinic.

"Here you go. Hope you like boar meat."

"I did like boar me. I have no idea if I still like boar meat. On one hand, one of them tried to kill me. On the other, I have seen the in-" Sam paused for a split second, remembering that Sonya was pregnant and battling morning sickness.

"-teresting spices they cook the meat with sometimes, and I might be allergic. Maybe. Probably not. Definitely not since I have no food allergies. Mmmmm, sandwich."

Deciding that was probably enough of a save, Sam bit into the sandwich with gusto. Apparently he did still like boar meat.
