Eden hasn't lost track of the specific spot where she first appeared on the island; she never knew where it was. At the time, reeling from her arrival, blood in her hair and, sometimes, eyes, head pounding and heart racing, the exact location was of approximately zero importance to her. She doesn't, for that matter, remember the stretch of beach ( Read more... )

Chase hadn't really intended to stop, but he always had a bit of curiosity when it came to people he knew -- patients, doubly so -- and he had to wonder what all the books were for. "Sounds like it's got a pretty strong opinion if it's enough to wake up for," Chase said, mock-seriously. "I wouldn't ignore the cat."

"Doctor Chase, hello," Eden said, looking up. Even if they'd all been in this place forever, it was strange sometimes to see him out and about; even here, she supposed, there was a disconnect between real life and the people in your life in a professional capacity. He'd always been such a help, though, and she offered up a smile. "She has strong opinions on a lot of things. Cats, you know."

"I have heard about the power of cats," he joked in a very dry tone. Considering Cameron had one, he hadn't been able to avoid cat stories the whole time. He wandered closer and offered as warm a smile as he got. "So, I'm hoping this is good cat help? Not 'maim everything' crazy cat help?"

"Oh, god, Origami wouldn't," Eden said, shaking her head. She smiled, wry. "I hope you realize I'm not taking the whims of a cat into account in life decisions. But she is decent company. How are you doing?" He wasn't bad company himself.

"Me? You know," he said with a hapless shrug. "I raise Nate, I tend to the kangaroo and make sure he's not about to go on a kangaroo-rampage. Whatever that is," he added, with a flash of confusion. "Work, life, etcetera. Not much changes, lately," he had to admit. "How are you doing, though," he asked, a bit gentler. "With Claire?"

"Better," Eden said slowly. When it came to herself, she was willing to lay all her cards on the table with him, painful as that could be; it usually came as a relief after the fact. Claire's secrets, however, were her own, and she didn't want to elaborate on the teen's reasons for her actions unless Claire herself wanted to speak to someone. "I think both of us are doing much better, actually. I'm just... trying not to crowd her, but I hate leaving her alone now, too."

Chase nodded rapidly, one of his go-to habits when it came to being a bit anxious. "I was thinking maybe I could bring Nate by to spend an afternoon with her," he admitted, rubbing his hand over the back of his head. "I don't know, do you think she'd enjoy that?"

Eden knew Claire far better than Chase thought he ever could and the last thing he wanted to do was make anything worse.

"Oh, definitely," Eden said, nodding, "please do. Claire adores him. I'm sure she'd be thrilled. It's... hard, you know? I want to take care of her and make sure she's alright, but if I fuss over her too much..." For one thing, it made her more of a parent than she was or had any right to be. "She doesn't like to be made to feel like an invalid. No one does. So I think that'd be perfect."

"Yeah, it's..." He trailed off, pressing his lips together so firmly that he felt like he could search for blood and wouldn't find a drop. "It's not exactly a common situation you see. I mean, back home, people jump off roofs for different reasons. This is new territory to me."
