There isn't a word to describe how good Danny feels to be standing at home plate of a baseball diamond in a Yankees jersey. He's got a pair of jeans to go with it, making his attire at least fifty percent more casual than most days and the best part is that he's been able to leave the cane at home ( Read more... )

"Hey, batta batta batta, sa-wing, batta batta batta," Wanda teased, hands cupped around her mouth obscuring a smirk as she came up to Danny and the diamond. Baseball had never really been her sport back home, but it had been a hell of a great diversion for a long time on the island, and she missed it more than she'd ever realized. Being on the ground floor of putting it together just made it all the more satisfying.

"Getting the grunt work out of the way today, are we?"

"It was either this or I was gonna be made to sand down furniture," Danny says and turns, still swinging his mock-bat and gesturing out to right field. "This place even feels right. We need some beer and nuts out here too, for the spectators, make it a real event."

"In that case, you'd better get picking, hot stuff. There's a bunch of macadamia trees a few hundred that-a-way," Wanda teased, bending over to grab a rake. "But no, honestly, furniture? You definitely picked the more noble pursuit."

"See? You see what I mean? You are a smart woman, incredibly so. And hot," he adds, like he just can't have a conversation without bringing it up at some point. "So, I'm thinking that maybe, and I only say this because I am being nice, maybe I've got a guy you can talk to about football."

"Really?" Wanda asked, practically beaming as her head snapped up, and not just because of the compliment. "You've been holding out on me, who is this esteemed company that you've been keeping?"

"Yeah, Steve, the guy I mentioned, my partner, the brute force in cannonball form," Danny whips off the descriptors like they're nothing at all. "I told him about baseball and he got all whiny. More of a football guy. I thought maybe you two could talk and bond about a sport that requires hardcore hitting."

"I like him better than you already," Wanda teased, sticking out her tongue for a moment just for good measure. "No, but seriously, that's fantastic, consider my day made. Not that I'm not totally looking forward to getting this place up and running again, but some things are just extra near and dear to a girl's heart, you know?"

"Well, I'll introduce you to Steve when we play the first game, but if I'm not around, just look for tall, dark, and so many tattoos you'd think he has a mental problem," Danny quips with a smirk, leaning on the rake heavily. "And before you even ask, I am not a football guy except to maybe pitch the ball around a little."

Wanda tried to affect a pout, but she was still too pleased for it to be all that convincing. "Oh come on, with a build like that? You'd be a great running back!" Alright, so more than a little on the short side, maybe, but Tabula Rasa was hardly the major leagues. She wasn't exactly built like her old linebacker self these days, but she got by just fine.

"I'm five-five, I'm not gonna see over anyone's shoulders, but yes, I am overly muscled compared to most guys in the shoulders," Danny admits as he flexes them back as if to prove a point. "Trust me, if you get a game together, I'm gonna have to play. It'll be retribution for the baseball."

"Ha!" Wanda exclaimed happily, letting go of the rake just long enough to clap her hands together and catch it before it fell. "And well-deserved payback it shall be. Still, one life-improving venture at a time, right?"

"And so long as when actual football games come around, you help in an elaborate scheme to make sure my face and my body don't get broken," Danny qualifies, because he really, really doesn't like a sport that's so giddy about injuries. "So what do you think, think we'll get a decent amount of spectators? Half the fun is showing off, after all."
