It isn't that Geoffrey actually needs to sew anything. Actually, he could probably go the rest of his life without sewing anything ever again, without so much as picking up a sewing needle. There are a dozen people on the island now with machines that could do this for him in five minutes flat. But fuck it, he's still going to sit here modifying a couple of pairs of jeans into overalls for Duck because he can, because he's been doing this for him for years and it's nobody's job but his.

If there's no longer a need for him to sew together stuffed animals too, well, he tries not to think about that.

With his knee he holds open a copy of Henry IV, Part 1, the page he's on threatening to tear away from the flimsy binding at any moment if he so much as moves the wrong way. It's been a long time since he's performed this, but he still remembers most of it. He still remembers most of what he's ever done, on stage or behind the scenes.

"Thou art so fat-witted, with drinking of old sack and unbuttoning thee after supper and sleeping upon benches after noon," he says, even though the ratty paperback's actually held open somewhere in the middle of Act 4, "that thou hast forgotten to demand that truly which thou wouldst truly know."

Indeed.
