Saffron's ex-husband was gone, and she didn't know how she felt about it. Hell, it wasn't like she was going to miss the houzi de pigu, but as mutual as their hate was, he had been a reminder of home, of the black. And now she couldn't help but wonder: why does he get to go back out of the world and I don'tShe'd been spending as much time as she ( Read more... )

The group dance with the girls had gone off without a hitch. They'd danced to a catchy little number called We Are Family, in sexy little outfits that coordinated, but didn't completely match, and Saffron was pleased with how well it had been received. Glad, too, that they'd talked and decided to make it a weekly thing.

Afterward, she'd changed back into her main costume for the night, and much later came her solo performance, last and at around 1 am as usual. She'd picked a song, not unusually, that meant something to her - she'd listened to it before, when going through the iPods to find things to perform to, but it wasn't until now that she really understood the lyrics, really felt them.

She got into the performance as usual, played to the audience and displayed the talent she'd been honing over the past two years. And once she'd slipped backstage to redress and freshen up, she was back out among the patrons, socializing and making sure everyone was enjoying themselves right up until closing time.

Priestly showed up late, after he finished up at the Winchester for the night, but not too late to catch Helen on stage. He didn't usually show up at the club when he wasn't working, but theme nights were a special occasion and he didn't want to miss it, even if he couldn't stay long.

"Brilliant, as always," he said when he finally got a piece of her, raising a glass to her performance. "You never miss a beat, do you."

"Thank you, Priestly," Saffron replied with a warm smile, stretching up to greet him with a kiss to the cheek. She was always glad to see him.

"How are things over at The Winchester?" she asked, knowing that was where he'd come from.

"We're holding it together," he said with a little shake of his head. It was tense, and a little rough going, but they were holding the place together, keeping up the routine. "Show up any Saturday and I'll cook you a dinner you'll never forget."

Saffron nodded. She knew things were hard for them now, over there, but they had strong folks helping to keep things going. "I don't doubt it," she said. "I should get around to visiting the place more." The Winchester and the club were different enough establishments that she wouldn't really have considered it to be competition, even if such a thing existed on the island.

"You should," he urged her. "Someplace you can go to relax, where you don't have to worry about making sure everyone's doing their job. And you know I'll show you a good time."

"That does sound pretty nice," Saffron admitted with a smile. "Sit down, relax, have a good meal. Maybe I could talk Xander into taking me on a date there. It's a pretty good place for a date, right?"

"The place for a date," says Priestly. "And not just when I'm cooking, but it helps. Candlelight and everything. Not that candlelight is a big sell around here, when everyone used to have to rely on it. But, you know, it's still kinda romantic."

"Oh, I don't know, I think we've had electricity long enough now that candlelight counts as being romantic again," Saffron replied.

"I can even make sure you guys get some flowers on the table. Fresh from...well, probably from the side of the boardwalk, but still, they'd be fresh."

She grinned at that, liking the idea more and more. "Look at you, Mr. Romance," Saffron praised. "You think of everything."

"Well, you know, I've got some experience in that area these days," he says. "And flowers, you know, that's a classic. You really can't go long with flowers."

"That's true," she agreed with a nod. "And especially so around here, where getting a bouquet of nice flowers actually requires a little effort."

It seemed like half their bartenders were stuck on the space station so Xander was pulling double duty. Not only was he entertaining the customers between performances but he was helping out where he could with the bars.

He was just coming up from checking on the bar downstairs when Helen's performance started and he took the moment to learn against the wall and watch her. As he listened to the song, he couldn't help the smile that spread over his face as he ducked his head and chuckled. When he met her eye, he knew exactly who the song was meant for and why.

When she was finished, Xander socialized for a few minutes, moving across the room so he was right there when she came out from the backstage area. When she did, he caught her around the waist and pulled her in for a kiss. "I hope your not knocking on wood anymore?" He asked to tell her that he'd gotten the message.

Saffron caught sight of the bar as she walked out from backstage, and once again the worry flared up within her over Dean. Lex, at least, had been able to get word to her and Anatoly from where he was, up on the space station, so she wasn't as worried about him. But then there was Xander, positioned so that she walked right into his arms, and all other thoughts flew out of her head as he kissed her.

"Even more now," she replied, her arms wound around his neck, completely unconcerned for the moment that they were both supposed to be working. It was her place, she could indulge every once in a while. "I'm holding on to this good thing with all my might."

"As long as we avoid the thunder and lightening, I think I'm good with that." He teased with a light smile before he leaned in to say softly into her ear, "The way you love me is frightening though. Chills and everything." He may have kept the teasing tone but he was serious. It was frightening at times but Xander had gotten good at the whole frightened thing.
