Amy Pond was on a space ship. Or a space station, if someone was about to get technical. Regardless, she was in space which was the far more important thing to grasp about this. Sure it was a bit dodgy how she came to be in space, but walking through a portal was honestly one of the less strange things that had happened her. Actually a portal was ( Read more... )

Bush still wasn't sure what he felt about all this spaceship business. No matter that everyone assured him that it was reasonably safe, no matter River Tam's joy and excitement , no matter, even, the wondrous view from the space station windows. Ships were not meant to fly, and neither were men, of that he was certain.

But William Bush was an explorer at heart: an explorer and a soldier. What other place could he be?

Still, he looked wary, suspicious, even, one hand on the bulkhead, as though he expected the entire ship to lurch at any moment. "You're mad," he informed the cheerful red-head, raising an eyebrow.

Scrunching up her face in an overly dramatic thoughtful expression, Amy tapped her chin as she considered that label. A moment later, she dropped her hand back to her side, grinning wildly as she nodded.

"More than likely," she agreed. Everyone was more than a little mad. It just took a little boldness to realise that was exactly what you were. Amy had no qualms being identified as mad. It was one of the least troubling things that she had ever been called. "But all the best people are. We have fabulous parties."

"So I hear," Bush said dryly. But while he might not be mad, he was certainly curious about this place. The sailor nodded down the hallway. "So what's that way, then?"

"Haven't got the faintest notion," Amy answered easily. There was no shame in admitting things like that. Other people might get a bit bent out of shape for having to own up that the didn't know everything, but this was a space station. The important bits were already all out there in the open.

"I was planning on having a look. Just poking around a bit. Seeing what is there."

"Suppose someone has to," William said with a wry twist of a smile that made it clear that he intended to follow her. "Lead the way, miss."

Punching the air to express her enthusiasm, she grinned madly. It crossed her mind briefly to shout out some sort of exclamation but that probably would only alarm people. Nah, it was best not to shout any more than was necessary.

"Well then. Let's go..." she took a step towards the corridor, pausing for a moment to decide which way was going to hold something interesting. "To the left!"

Feeling a bit the way he had once felt when chasing Kennedy and Hornblower across Santo Domingo and straight into danger, William followed after her with a shake of his head. "I'm beginning to get the idea that you do this sort of thing a lot," he observed dryly.

"I do, actually." There was a bob of her head as she turned to walk backwards every so often throwing a glance behind her to make certain that she wasn't going to walk into something or someone.

"Or I used to. Not so much now, but there aren't a lot of mysterious space ships on the island." Or well, not ones that anyone let her poke around in.

"And what do you usually find?" William asked, wondering if he would like the answer very much. Nothing very good, he had a feeling.

"Oh all sorts of things. People, monsters, weird stuff." Amy paused as she ran through her mental list of things that she had found. Or had been privy to accidentally landing in the thick of. "Not all of it is bad. I promise."

On second thought, maybe she shouldn't have added that part. It didn't sound very comforting now that she had said it.
