Ever since Claudia had discovered the laptop on her porch, she'd been listening non stop to the music that was on it. She'd been so excited to actually have her own music AND she was even excited over the dumb games that came with it. Minesweeper, Solitaire and FreeCell (which she actually hated, but hey! She so wasn't going to be complaining about ( Read more... )

It had taken some work, but by that afternoon (it would've been earlier had it not been for ITF training) Sonya was proud to think that she'd finally had this 'Ipod' thing down. Not that it was that hard, the symbols were still the same, it just took awhile for her to get used to how it worked. She was still from a time when CD players were just becoming common and a lot of the music she listened to was still on casette, but now she was given a device that had all of her collection on one device.

Said device was strapped to a band around her arm while she was headed to the compound and listening to Aerosmith before coming across a young woman singing to whatever she was listening to. Stopping the music on her own device, Sonya paused to listen to the lyrics, frowning a little as she tried to recognize them. It turned to a grin when she finally remembered.

"Bowie fan, eh?"

Looking up at her laptop with a grin, Claudia suddenly froze, her response quickly fading away before she'd even begun to say it. Holy Crap!!!!!!!! Sonya Blade was standing right in front of her... TALKING to her.

She had to force herself to breath and to smile. And talk. Sonya had totally just asked her a question. "Oh... Oh yeah," Claudia said with a cheesy grin (she couldn't help it! Sonya Blade!). "Bowie's friggin awesome and then some!"

Okay..Sonya wasn't sure if she should start exchanging music titles or start performing CPR-because for a moment it looked like she was struggling not to hyperventilate.

"I think he was the only reason I let my bunkmate talk me into watching Labyrinth with her." Mika was more into things like faeries and other such tales, a secret she only let out to her friends. When she managed to sneak in a VHS of the movie-it was only by that detail that Sonya agreed to keep it a secret: because 'hello' it was David Bowie in tights.

Claudia couldn't stop her eyes from widening as Sonya shared information with her. Sonya Blade was talking to her about David Bowie! It was totally beyond AWESOME! She drew in a deep breath and nodded her head. "Oh Labyrinth is totally one of my favorite movies. That and The Goonies, but any movie with Bowie in it is instantly epic."

(OOC: I know, mine's still failing to an extent.))

Sonya suppressed a frown. She remembered when the Goonies movie came out, being on leave and her dad thinking it might be fun to watch-for old times sake. Sonya politely refused: it looked too much like what her brother might like, and she said she was too old to enjoy a movie like that.

It wasn't exactly a lie, she just felt too old.

"Never saw that one." She said, simply. "Maybe I should now that I'm here, plently of free time."

"What other music do you have in there?" Computers weren't really meant to hold music in her time, but she could see how they would eventually. After all, if they could be made to record sound bites, why not music.

"No way!" Claudia gasped, a little bewildered. "You've seriously never watched The Goonies????" She grinned and then did her best impersonation of Sloth, "Heeeeeey you guuuuuuuuuuuuys!" She laughed. "Oh my god. Best line ever! Seriously, we so need to have you watch it." She nodded her head firmly, believing everyone should watch that movie at least once.

Thinking, she set her laptop on the ground and rose to her feet, studying Sonya. "How about The Princess Bride? You have seen that one, right?"

"I haven't really had much time to watch movies-before coming here anyway." well, even on the island she usually preferred to keep busy enough.

Still, the young woman's enthusiam was enough to make her grin back.

Especially went she mentioned 'Princess Bride'. "Yes, I have seen The Princess Bride, and read the book-the movie is better actually." It was easier when you didn't have to hear Buttercup's thought processes-and she couldn't deny that Wesley was rather cute (he wasn't her type, but he wasn't that bad looking.)

She held out her hand. "Sonya Blade."

"Well here it seems like that's all we have... A whole lotta extra time on our hands," Claudia commented with a very serious nod of her head.

"I haven't read the book," she admitted, but maybe the book shelf would be nice to her one day and a copy of it would appear. Grinning, Claudia reached out, shaking Sonya's hand. "It's cool to meet you," she gushed, once again letting a bit of her inner geek shine through. "I'm Claudia Donovan."

She shrugged. "I manage to keep myself busy." She said with a 'not quiet' laugh: according to Hanzo, she's usually too busy.

The compliment did earn her a bemused grin. "Nice to meet you." She wasn't sure where the 'cool' came from-she didn't really think herself all that special enough to stand out.

Sonya pulled her hand away, looking at the computer. "Gift from the island?" Or maybe she arrived with it-as far as she knew, if the island sent something from home, it was never really something one enjoyed.

Looking down at her laptop, Claudia grinned again before nodding. "Yeah, I almost tripped over it when I went to head out of my hut a couple of days ago. It's got all sorts of music on it and some games, which are kinda lame, but whatever right?"

lt_blade January 25 2011, 19:56:23 UTC
"Actually, I would think the lame part would be if you actually did trip over it." Because that would be one hell of a waste. "And I'm back from when most micro computers were still only available to people on military payroll-forget about using them for music and games."

Because of course, the military wouldn't fund something just for entertainment.

"The island gave me this." She reached over onto her left arm and pulled off the iPod. "I'm still used to things like CD players and casettes, but this is nicer since it's not so bulky and you don't have to really mess with it."

Sonya proceeded to wrap the earbugs around the device to keep them from trailing everywhich way. In the process of doing so, the sun glinted off the gold/white gold wedding band on her ring finger.

ooc:had to XD

"Dude, it wouldn't have been lame... It would have been seriously tragic!" Claudia clarified with a horrified expression. Seriously though! The thought of having possibily destroyed her brand new lap top was making her literally sick. She drew in a deep breath though, and shook the feeling off. "So you come from a time of dinosaur computers. That's cool though... That's when people were having fun with their coding and trying to figure things out."

Claudia's eyes widened in interest, looking over Sonya's iPid. "Well if you ever want to put new stuff on it, I have plenty...." she trailed off, catching sight of the ring on Sonya's finger. She totally didn't remember Sonya being married. "You're married?"

Sonya raised an eyebrow, more amused than insulted.

"'93 to be exact, the dinorsaur age of computers was the late 80s: we weren't so primative back then."

The idea of adding more music did sound like a good idea. She was still going through the albums in this thing, but according to the data she got-she still had enough room for 400 songs.

But then Claudia's attention seemed to trail off in another direction, and Sonya looked at her ring finger in response.

"Got married last December. Why?" She really didn't see why it was something worth noticing. A lot of people on the island seemed to get married, it seemed like a good place to do so since there wasn't all of the 'distractions' (or dangers in her and Scorpion's case) as there would be back home.

"Oh, 93 is still dinosaur age," Claudia pointed out. "I'm from 2010, there's been a lot of advances in that whole area." She wasn't bragging, she was just... explaining. Yup, explaining.

"Oh, no reason!" Claudia assured her with a nod. Crap, she couldn't tell her she was surprised because in the game and movie she wasn't married. But yeah. "Just kinda surprised by how many people get married here is all."

Be it as it may, sonya only expected that technology would become more advanced as time went on.

She laughed and nodded, taking a seat on the steps. "I admit it's not a step I would've taken back home." Well, she did, but look where it got her. "But we love eachother, he's able to accept all of me and my career, and it's not something we would be able to do back home." She smiled a little. "So why not get hitched."
