After a good week and change, Gwaine is starting to have to admit that maybe he's not exactly dead. He doesn't think dead people's hearts beat so quickly. And as strange as all this is, he's not about to rule out a strange kind of magic. Who knew how powerful Morgana and Morgause made themselves, after all ( Read more... )

She really shouldn't have been surprised when she was used as snowball target practice once again, really, she shouldn't have. But ending up face first in the snow hadn't been something she'd ever really expected when she'd set off toward the clinic.

Grumbling under her breath, she pushed herself to her knees and looked over her shoulder at the person who'd just nailed her good. She really was not in the mood for this sort of thing, and her expression more than showed that. "You know, that wasn't even remotely funny."

He's laughing. Oh, lord, but he's laughing and his stomach already aches just a mite and he's in real trouble now. He flashes a cheeky grin, trying to look as handsome and innocent as he could. "Maybe not funny, but it did get you talking to me, so it's not remotely a wholly bad thing, beautiful."

Her eyes narrowed even more as she finally rose to her feet. Brushing the snow off of her front she turned, staring at the man. "You could done what normal and civilized people do and just said hello. You really didn't need to assault me."

She shook her head, her hands coming to rest on her hips. "And I have a name, and it most certainly is not what you just called me."

Gwaine holds up both hands in innocent protest. "Apparently the game's gone a bit too far," he admits with a nod of his head. "I'm Gwaine. And hello. If that's how the polite way of this is going to go, we'll do it your way," he concedes, trying to be kind enough to stave off whatever punishment he's about to endure.

That, or he's about to be run off -- which isn't new.

She knows she's being crankier than she needs to be, but she's pretty much been in quite a foul mood since she discovered Joshua's hut empty - so really it isn't all Gwaine's fault.

Sighing, she let her hands fall from her hips, but continued to watch Gwaine and his hands, just in case he decided to let loose another snowball. "I'm Carolyn Lam, Doctor Carolyn Lam."

"Doctor?" he echoes the word, confusion flickering over his face. "You'll have to run that one by me again. What's it mean?"

"You don't know what a doctor is?" Carolyn asked, her eyebrows furrowing. For a moment she wasn't sure if he was joking or not, but his confusion seemed genuine.

"A doctor is someone you go to when you're sick or injured and they help heal you."

"Ah, a healer, then," Gwaine says knowingly, understanding flickering over his face. He offers a rueful grin. "Most of the time when I have a wound, I just let it be until it heals and if it doesn't, I drink a little more ale and hope it does the trick."

"And that's a very dangerous thing to do!" Carolyn scolds. Yes, she's entering doctor mode. Beware. "Not seeking proper treatment when you're wounded can lead to a great many complications. The worst? Possible loss of body parts and/or death."

"Oh, pish," Gwaine dismisses with a shrug. "I'm already in my twentieth years," he acknowledges. "My father died long before he even reached this age. If it's good for him, it's plenty good for me."

"Oh wow, you are so old," Carolyn remarked rather drily. If he thought twenty was old, she'd hate to think of what he'd think of someone who was, oh say in their mid thirties. Shaking her head she crossed her arms. "You do realize that now a days, the average lifespan of a healthy person is about eighty years old, don't you?"

"I'm sure they're not fighting the kind of fights I am," Gwaine assures, raising his brow at the news of 'eighty'. "Only person I know who's that old is Gaius and I still have to believe there's a kind of magic in that old man."

"Depends on what sort of fighting you're talking about..." She paused for a moment thinking of Teal'c. "And actually where they're from too." She eyed him for a moment. "Where are you from?"

"Camelot," he replies, instantly. "Why, where did you expect me to be from? Your dreams?" he asks, utterly sincere with a halfway-sweet smile on his lips.

Ah that made sense. Well as much sense as anything made on the island. She shot him an almost amused smile. "No sweetie, you need to quit confusing your dreams for mine." OK, so she was teasing him. "Actually from the way you were talking about dealing with your wounds and all, I'd expected you to come from an under developed country. But Camelot makes complete sense."

"An underdeveloped country? Not Albion," he says dismissively with a shake of his head. "I've seen some of the most advanced weaponry and buildings than I ever have in all my travels. Of course, usually towns with magic are better off. At least, those outside of Uther's reign."
