As far as birthdays went, this had turned out to be an eventful one. I wasn't really used to doing much for my birthday, close to Christmas as it was, and here on the island I wasn't even sure if anyone knew it was my birthday. I couldn't help but laugh at that and I turned toward the bookshelves.

"Hear that? No more birthday bullshit. Not today."

That at least got me in a better mood. "Thanks, for that. Otherwise I think I'd still be moping."

I could go for hot chocolate myself. That had always been one of the better parts of skiing, in my opinion, and I was happy to give into cliche this time around.

"You want to go see if the kitchen will oblige us? I think I saw some chocolate in there."
