Karen doesn't like keeping secrets.

She has kept secrets in her life, like when she used to hide things from her Mummy and Daddy and pretended not to know where they were, or when she saw the bruises on Jake's wrists and never, ever told anybody that she'd seen them there (even if she did start sneaking an extra bear onto his bed at night). Karen's got a secret now, too. She knows about what Dieter was before he came to the island and she knows that it wasn't nice. For a couple of weeks now, she's been worried about what might happen if everyone finds out. Karen is still too young to have crushes and so everybody that she loves ends up as family in her head, and she can't bear the thought of anybody hurting her family.

It makes her think of the bruises on Jake's wrists all over again.

Karen's spent most of the morning building a snowman. It's about as tall as she is, with snow eyes and a carrot nose. Karen looks up at it, her head tilted on one side, and then she pulls off her blue and striped hat, the one with the red pom-pom on the end and she plonks it down on his head. She studies it for a long moment and then she leans in, very, very close indeed, and she whispers her secret to the snowman.

For a moment, nothing happens.
The nice thing about being eight: it's easy, sometimes, to make yourself feel better.

Karen takes a step back and then she knocks the head clean off the snowman with one gloved fist before she lands a solid kick somewhere around his knees.

That makes her feel better too.

ooc: Karen's building her snow-man in the playground. Happen upon her while she's telling it her secret (though you won't overhear her) OR when she's already commenced kicking the shit out of it! ST/LT welcome
