Always careful, always conscious of his surroundings, Mathias has been carefully avoiding the mistletoe in the door of the rec room since the snow arrived. He realizes that he's taking a light hearted island trick a little too seriously, but there's something about being physically unable to move that makes his heart pound and his hands start to ( Read more... )

I walked into the room, and stopped to see Mathias standing by the other door, reaching fruitlessly for his dogs. My eyes barely flicked to the lintel before I picked out the mistletoe hanging there.

I sighed. "The mistletoe again? What happened, Mathias?"

"It's the dog's fault," Mathias says, pointing to where King is still sitting just inside the rec room, his tail wagging at Polly in greeting. Both dogs are just out of his reach and he slumps against the door frame, looking at them dejectedly. "I thought if I kissed one of them, I might get to escape."

Although he really isn't sure how this works, he certainly hopes he doesn't have to kiss someone who isn't Veronica.

I sighed and gave him a sympathetic smile. "That's too bad. But you know the rules." As I said this, I cast my eyes at the ceiling, and stopped myself just short from shaking my fist at it. "You need any help to get free?"

"I think the island was absent on the day rules were explained," Mathias answers with a laugh, as King trots past him and noses Polly's hand, wanting his ears to be rubbed now that Mathias is otherwise occupied. He definitely needs help to get free, but he honestly isn't sure how this works.

"If I kiss you on the cheek, do you think it will get me out of here?" he asks. If he has to really kiss someone, he's going to be stuck here until someone can find Veronica for him.

Jo was quickly finding the rec room was a bad area to be in if people wanted to a - avoid getting stuck under mistletoe or b - avoid wanting to kiss random people who get stuck under said mistletoe.

Shaking herh ead, she watched the guy trying to to coax the dog into, man she didn't even want to think what he was trying to do. "I think this mistletoe is getting out of control."

"And I avoided it so well up until this point," Mathias replies with a faint sigh, giving up on coaxing Hal forward for the moment. Although well trained, both dogs are still adjusting to their new owner and he's having some difficulties getting them to trust him completely.

"I thought kissing the dog might get me out," he admits.

Jo chuckled, "Well it was a good idea, I suppose. Though this island is messed up, so I doubt it would have done anything much."

She fell silent for a moment, sizing him up. Her last experience with helping someone out of their predicament with the mistletoe had left her very annoyed and she wasn't sure she really wanted to go through that again. BUT - so far the guy hadn't made any smart ass remarks and otherwise managed to piss her off in the span of two minutes.

"You want some help?"

Mathias hesitates briefly, hoping a kiss on the hand or cheek will work. If all else fails, he'll find someone who can get Veronica for him.

"Ja," he decides, offering a faint smile. "But maybe I should introduce myself first and maybe we should see if a kiss on the cheek will suffice? Since we are practically strangers. I'm Mathias."

Standing in the hallway, Zoe smirked. She can't help it. Magic mistletoe was ridiculous. Ridiculously funny that is. Thankfully there was some sort of magic spirit animal looking out for her and constantly reminding her to use the other door.

"Got any meat on you?" she offered almost unhelpfully. "That might get them to come over and give you some lovin'."

Arching an eyebrow at her, Mathias sits in the doorway looking dejected and shakes his head. "I didn't think to bring any meat with me into the rec room. I think my forgetfulness may have to do with the fact that I was not expecting to require any dog loving."

As soon as he's said it, he realizes how it sounds and just shakes his head again, at himself this time.

"And because carrying meat around is weird?" That was putting it mildly. Zoe was all for random eccentricities, but that was just crossing a line. People would talk, bears would stalk people and it would just get weirder.

No, it's pretty much for the best that Mathias' answer was no. "It's not the sort of thing people expect. Unless they're really into dogs."

"And, yes, because carrying meat around is weird," he agrees, looking at Zoe with a small smile from where he's stuck. It's weird enough to think about having to kiss someone other than Veronica to get out of here, but it's far too strange to think about kissing someone who looks exactly like her.

Besides, he's a gentleman and he's not going to be the one to suggest it.

"I promise, I'm not really into dogs," he says. "I was just hoping it would help."
