Jack had star charts and a little boy. Matthew was with him while Anne did something or other. 'Just a minute' he'd been told. Just a minute had turned into something...educational.
Jack had star charts and a little boy and a marker and they were playing connect the dots. He was telling Matthew about things called constellations and how people used to see pictures in the stars. They saw horses and snakes and lions and they saw women and warriors.
Matthew apparently saw a lot of squares and triangles. Jack connected a few dots of his own, but he didn't interrupt the little boy's progress. In fact, Jack left him at the table to mark up the star chart so he could go over and find something to read tonight while he and Logan sat in front of the fire. It was amazing how fast they went through books.
"Jack! Penta...pentagon," Matthew said, pleased he'd connected five points. Jack came over and ruffled the little boy's hair.
"Good job, buddy," he said. "You know, if your mom takes much longer, maybe we should find a cartoon...what do you say?"
"No! Stars," Matthew replied. A boy after Jack's own heart. Though he could go for some Bugs Bunny...
