Joe had told her about a guitar she could use and Savannah had jumped on the opportunity. She'd taken it from the school, fully intending to put it back before the new term started. While school was out, though, she was going to use it. She'd played a bit in her hut and got a feel for the instrument, then decided to go out and play where she might bring a smile to someone's face. She looked around and finally decided to take a seat on the merry-go-round on the playground. That might mean she could play some of the kids songs she knew, if any kids showed up.
Without children, though, Savannah played a song she knew best.
I love this place
But it's haunted without you
My tired heart is beating so slow
Our hearts sing this
That we want it we want it
Our hearts sing 'cause
We do not know we do not know
To light the night
To help us grow
To help us grow
It is not said I always know
You can catch me
Don't you run
Don't you run
If you live another day
In this happy little house
The fire's here to stay
To light the night
To help us grow
To help us grow
It is not said I always know
Please don't make a fuss
It won't go away
The wonder of it all
The wonder that I make
I am here to stay
I am here to stay
To stay
When she was done she let go of the neck of the guitar and stretched her fingers and rubbed them on her shorts. All the practice in the world didn't keep her hand from getting kind of sore when she played through a whole song like that. Savannah wondered if maybe she could get some tablature so she could learn new songs. That would certainly make the next beach party a lot more fun for her. And maybe she could impress Jim one day when the building crew had a slow day. Oh! And she could talk to Boyd about hymns. Savannah smiled as she thought about all the good she could do with just a guitar.
[ The song Savannah is singing can be heard
HERE (and it's really Amanda Seyfried singing it!) ST/LT welcome, I'll be a little slow myself. It's a great time to meet her!]
