California...knows how to party

Mar 10, 2006 18:31

Everything was ready.

John had showed up with not one but two boars. Together they had dug two firepits and fastened spits to roast the pigs over the flame. He'd demanded a whole container of wine for the trouble and Johnny had been more than happy to share his limited supply ( Read more... )

Sansa had not seen anything quite like the Hummer, she had at first thought it was a shelter, and then from Johnny's word it would seem it moved and now it seemed to be playing some of what was considered music on the island, she wondered if any of her family had any idea what it's actual purpose was, she wouldn't put it past Arya. Or perhaps they had them in London, she could ask the Pevensies she thought, Moril wouldn't know she supposed he had an ordinary cart and horse, and she didn't have any idea what Sephiroth's world was like except that it had dragons.

In the end she decided the easiest thing was to ask Johnny, "It looks lke a wonderful party," 'what had her called her, the other day, sis, did it work in reverse' "bro" she stumbled a bit over the strange shortening but she couldn't call him brother with her family there. "Is a Hummer used specifically for parties?"

Ned had never seen anything like the Hummer before and stared at it for quite a while with interest. It had wheels like a cart, but yet did not look as if there were any place to hitch horses to it; and he had never seen a cart made of metal, at any rate. And there was music coming out of it, yet there appeared to be no musicians, much like the strange box-things in the compound.

"Most interesting," Ned mused, walking around the Hummer and looking at it with what was almost wonder. He would have to ask the owner of this thing how it worked.

Susan recognised the Starks' father as soon as she saw him, though she knew he wouldn't recognise her - the only time she had met him, she had been in Jon's body and not her own. So she thought she ought to go and introduce herself to him properly while things were relatively normal.

"Excuse me," she said politely. "We've been introduced, but you wouldn't recognise me. I'm Susan Pevensie - we met before when everyone was all switched around. I'm a friend of Jon's - and Robb and Sansa," she added quickly.

"Oh, yes, Your Grace, I remember," Ned replied with a bow. "It's a pleasure to finally meet you properly. I've met your brother King Edmund as well." He had not had a chance to ask before, when he met Edmund, nor had he had a chance to ask Robb later, and he was quite curious. "Sansa tells me that you are a Queen, and yet your brother is King? I have never heard of such a thing."

"Please, Lord Stark, just call me Susan," she said, insistent but polite. "I come from a different time than my siblings, and when I come from, we have not been Kings and Queens for several years. And yes, we were all Kings and Queens together, each in our own right. I know it is different than most other places that have Kings and Queens, but that's how it was in Narnia."

Susan didn't particularly want to talk about Narnia just then, so she said, "I heard you were injured when you first came here. Are you well now?" She smiled and added, "Your children seem very grateful and happy to have you here."

"Then you must call me Ned," he replied with a nod. "And yes, I am much better, thank you for asking. I am pleased to be here with my children, even if we do not know what this place is or why we have been brought here."

Apparently it was flowers and a party. Johnny was good. Really good. Right behind that harp guy. Rickon wasn't going to complain though. There was meat.

He waved enthusiastically at Johnny before wandering off to examine the Hummer more closely too. More specifically the thing that was making all the music.

Johnny waved back at Sansa and Robb's brother with a smile, but when he made to go to the Hummer, he grabbed the back of his shirt. "Hey, Rickon. Did you see that they're roasting pigs over there?"

Distraction. Always distraction.

"What?" Rickon looked back puzzled. "Oh, that. But it's not ready yet, is it? I've had them before." Winterfell had had its boar hunts. In its day. But Rickon was distracted though. For the moment.

"Not yet. You've had boar before? Like a pig roast?" Johnny made his eyes go wide and he stared in apparent awe. "That is so cool."

Rickon puffed up his chest slightly. "Yeah, I've had boar before. My brothers killed them." He was proud of his brothers, but he couldn't resist adding a "I couldn't go, but I would've."

"I'll bet they'll let you go on a boar hunt when you get older," Johnny grinned. "Then you can throw me a party."

Moril has his small cwidder strapped across his back, because heaven forbid he go anywhere without it, and a jug cradled in his arms like a baby. He's still nervous, after what Ray told him, about letting people know about the beer, but it's a party, he's supposed to bring something.

"Hello," he says, following Sansa to Johnny and offering him the jug. "Thank you for having a party."

The food, it turned out, wasn't ready, so she wandered amoungst the people until she realized she'd met one of the people Sansa had invited.

Arya could put two and two together (without a school, thank you very much Father). "You lent Sansa the harp," she declared.

There may have been a faintly accusatory hint in her tone.

"Of course I did," Moril says, a little defensively. "She said she'd sing with me. Somebody has to."

"She's going to sing." Arya repeated flatly. "Which means she's going to practice singing. Great."
