She’s probably being ridiculous. Somewhere, deep down, Lexie is entirely aware of this, though not enough to question doing so in the first place. The thing about sex with Alex is that it’s exactly that: sex. No feelings, no strings attached, just a way of having fun. After all she’s been through lately, she deserves this, a chance to feel good ( Read more... )

Sam Crew has had a lot of strange things happen to him in his short little life. But having a naked lady show up in his crib is maybe the strangest. He takes it stride, however, like most things and reaches up to pat her leg, offering an enthusiastic, "Hi!"

His mother, however, rolls violently out of bed as she's woken up, grabbing the nearest weapon, a shoe, and stumbles over to his bed.

"What the hell?" she shrieks, still half asleep and half unfocused.

Lexie has only a moment to look horror-struck at the sight of the child a few inches from her before the woman who can only be his mother makes an appearance, wielding a shoe. Ordinarily, Lexie wouldn't think of it as much of a threat, but as it is, so rattled already, she claps a hand over her mouth, shrinking backwards as if that will make a bit of difference. It doesn't.

"Please don't hurt me," she says, the words slightly muffled, eyes growing wide like she might be about to cry. "I swear to God, I don't even know where I am, I wasn't - I was just at home."

Kate blinks a few times as that finally registers. "Oh good Lord," she huffs, dropping the shoe. "Two in one day are you freaking kidding me? Are you naked? And new, I assume?"

Sam, sensing that something is perhaps not right about this, judging from his mom's reaction, frowns and pulls his toys towards him, just in case.

"Um, yeah," Lexie says with a short, mirthless laugh, like it isn't obvious enough that she isn't wearing anything. The rest, she can't make any sense of at all, and she shakes her head. At least, she tells herself, it could be worse. She's no longer being threatened with a shoe for something she didn't have any control over at all. "I don't know what you mean by new."

Definitely new.

"Right, just, wrap that sheet around you tight and I'll help you out. Then I'll explain. That's my kid, by the way. Sam." she says, reaching out a hand.

To the naked girl in Sam's crib.

"Hi Sam," Lexie says to the kid, about as brightly as she can manage, though the smile she manages isn't quite soft enough to seem natural. She turns back to the woman after just a moment, pulling herself and taking the offered hand, the other still clutching the sheet over her chest. "Thank you. I am... really sorry about this. Trust me, I had no idea I would be... here."

"No one ever does," she grunts, trying to help her out without dropping her. "I'm Kate. You're not where you just were, clearly. Let me get you some clothes and then I'll try and explain."

She finds a t-shirt and soft pants, figuring they'll do for now.

"Here," she says, moving to pluck Sam out of his crib and give her a little privacy.

"I'm Lexie," she replies, visibly grateful as she takes the t-shirt and pants. Clothes aren't going to help her understand how this happened, but they'll at least make this whole situation a little less awkward. She keeps the sheet around herself as she first tugss the shirt over her head, then the pants on from underneath it, finally pulling the blanket off and draping it over the crook of her arm. "Wow. Okay. That's... a lot better."

"Thought so," Kate says, offering up a small smile. She hitches Sam up onto her hip and moves to open the door. "Okay, there's just no way to avoid the Wizard of Oz reveal, so here you go," she says, pushing it open to reveal bright sunlight pouring through the canopy of trees.

"You're on an island."

"Holy -" Lexie breathes, unable to do anything but stare for a long few moments at the scenery outside, which is about as far a cry from Seattle as it's possible to get. Finally, though, she turns her head in Kate's direction once more. "Okay, so how did I get here? Because I definitely wasn't on any kind of island before. Are you sure I haven't... gone crazy, lost my mind, or something?"

It occurs to her that asking wouldn't be any kind of reliable way to find out, but she doesn't bother taking the question back.

"Come sit outside with me," she says softly, ducking down to wrestle Sam into some shoes. He goes scampering out onto the porch, judiciously deciding which toy to start with as Kate points to a free chair.

"Okay, Lexie, where were you right before this happened?"

Lexie does as Kate tells her, partly because there isn't really anything else to do, and partly because she could never pick a fight with someone who's been so nice to her at a time like this, shoe-wielding aside. Exhaling heavily, she takes a seat in the indicated chair.

"I was in Seattle," she explains, "at my sister's house. Which probably sounds really weird given the whole naked thing, but she always has other people living there, and one of them is this guy I've been, you know. With. And this... definitely isn't Seattle."

"I was in Canada four years ago when I showed up here," she starts, still more than a little rattled that people are now showing up in other people's homes. "We still don't know why, but people from all different times and places end up here and we can't seem to leave until the powers that be send us back. But it's real; you're not nuts."

It certainly sounds nuts. That's been the case since she first found herself in some little kid's crib, though, and she's made enough of a point of bringing that to attention. Either way, the information is still jarring, and she raises her eyebrows considerably. "So pretty much what you're telling me is that I'm stuck here until God knows when?"
