One month. It had been a month since everything had gone to hell for Maureen. Since her boyfriend had decided to beat the shit out of her and then blow up a bunch of people

Freddie wasn't at all sure what he was doing there. It was a stupid move and he wasn't usually known for his stupid moves. His temper, maybe, and his reactions to the Russians and the press, but not stupid moves. Yet here he was, standing at the place where he'd practically been blown up. He hadn't expected anyone to be there, so the loud shout made him jump. It took him less than a split-second to place the voice.
Maureen.
He sighed, recognized in himself the fact that he wasn't just going to walk away, and headed over to her. "Only if you can try to explain it to Prior," he said, not really being serious.
Maureen blinked, at first a little startled by his presence and not realizing what he was saying, but then... oh. Right.
She offered him a wavering smile and said, "You know, he hasn't actually come out and told me about you two. Not that you were doing a very good job of hiding it if that was your intention."
"It's not," Freddie promised. "At least...not on my end." Although there may have been people, like Maureen, he hadn't actively told. Or anyone, actually, except Lex when he was trying to bait the man. "It's just been...us."
Maureen's smile got a little brighter. "I really am glad," she said sincerely. "I mean... I'm happy for you. I was really worried about him for a while. And, um... I won't tell him. About you and me, I mean."
He should have said that he wasn't ashamed of them, but it would have been a lie both for the reasons she probably thought and his own private ones. Maybe she knew about Florence, but did she know about their relationship? He was fairly sure he'd never actually called her Florence especially since he'd secretly known she was really Maureen.
"You don't have to go out of your way to not tell him." Damn it, there was really no way to say it that wouldn't make her feel bad, was there?
Maureen shrugged a little. "I get that it might be weird," she said. "I mean... it was a little weird, with Mark. And with the whole complication of Roger and all that - probably best I don't add any more tangles into the mix."
She offered him a little smile then and said, "And I'll try to be only a little envious."
"And don't forget Sergievsky and Lex. There's that mess, too, since apparently Sergievsky used to date Roger." He wasn't thinking about that. Ever. Except when he did and it disturbed him completely. "But I didn't come here to talk about my love life." He wasn't really sure why he'd come here.
"Did you come here for the same reason I came?" Maureen asked, some of the humor falling form her face as she looked out at the scrapyard. "Because unfortunately it's too late to actually kick the shit out of him."
"Oh, believe me, I regret not being able to put my hands on him." He didn't say that he'd had offers from other people. Once Trixa had found out about what happened...well, maybe it was better for all concerned that he'd vanished quickly and quietly without anyone being able to do something that they might regret. Or that someone else might regret.
Maureen.
