There's a rumbling around the island about a giant robot or something. Joshua is certain someone will be at the second clinic, but he talks Carolyn into covering his shift as well at the third clinic -- she'll end up staying the whole day there -- so he can just be certain. He figures if there is something going on, it won't hurt to have two doctors on duty. And if not, well, he can do inventory for a little while before heading back to the third clinic.
He ends up doing inventory and then he's glad that he brought a book. It's the usual fodder for him: research. This time he's reading about ... nothing. He falls asleep, book open in his lap, sitting in a chair. He's overestimated how much sleep he can go without. Between Juliet's late night memory and his own nightmares which plague him, he's running on very little sleep.
It doesn't help that the sleep he's been getting isn't restful. Even now he's standing over David, arguing with a doomed man whether or not he can be the one to execute the sentence. David can't move and Joshua is coolly whispering that he gave him something. A tear rolls down David's cheek and Joshua feels his shaky resolve fading. But in the end, he does it. And David is screaming in pain, only ... it's no longer David that he's skinning. It's Juliet on his table and she's screaming and screaming just like the other night.
