I had a craving for Indian food and I knew that Harkness was hoarding spices. Far be it from me to begrudge anyone their hoarding-- so long as they didn't mind when my touch got light. Jack and Logan were moving and I only asked if I could use the things after I'd already stolen them ( Read more... )

"You, love," Bill praised with a broad grin as he took in the spread, "are gorgeous. This looks amazing." It had been a long bloody time since he'd had a good curry.

"Of course I am," I laughed. "You should try this one. It's hot. Though it has no meat." Such was the trade off. I'd used all the bird in the yellow curry.

"Oh, I'm trying everything," he said decisively, but hesitated before grabbing a plate. "First, though, can I help with anything?"

"You can put the naan on plates. I made too much, I'm afraid."

Though, in my opinion, there was no such thing as too much naan.

"Thank you, Bill. You're quite kind. Especially since you just did this yesterday."

He moved to do as requested, going to the cupboard for plates. "I don't think the people coming in here to eat will think you've made too much," he commented as he worked. "And you're welcome. It's hardly any trouble."

"Well thank you," I said again. I poured the spicy veggie curry into a bowl with some rice and moved it to the service, then pushed my hair back from my face.

"How have you been? I was busy with William yesterday and barely had time to say hello to you."

"Just fine," replied Bill, looking over at Vala with a smile. "Nothing all that exciting to report, but around here that's not necessarily a bad thing. How are you and William?" He glanced over to the playpen where Vala's son was playing.

"We're wonderful. Weathered the hurricane well, though I still think he's got mud in hidden places," I laughed. "I feel very fortunate he's content to play over there, confined, while I cook. I feel almost bad dropping him off downstairs. He can be such a handful."

Bill watched him for a second, smiling, remembering when his youngest siblings had been that age. "He does seem pretty happy," he observed, looking back to Vala. "That's good he can entertain himself."

"Self reliant. Like me," I replied. Though it wasn't quite like me at all. Not the way I was now, but thinking back...I had been rather strong willed and self reliant as a child. Perhaps it was something I'd passed on.

And who knew what Spike was like as a child. That was something we'd never discussed.

"It's a good trait to have," Bill said. The nan was ready and waiting to be served up, and he brushed his hands together and turned back to Vala. "Anything else I can do?"

I flashed him a positively wicked grin and then gave him a wink.

"I'd say yes, but I'm sure Daniel would have something to say about it," I teased.

"Now you're just teasing me, Vala," said Bill laughingly as he took a plate and started serving himself up a little of everything.

"Perhaps a little," I laughed. "I can do that. It's fun!"

He grabbed a napkin and silverware and set them and his plate down at a table, then went back for a drink. "You can, and it is," he agreed. "Besides, I doubt you can subject me to anything that's worse than what I've got in the past from my younger brothers. ...I probably just set myself up with that comment."

"How many younger brothers do you have, Bill?" I asked as I arranged things a bit better. "And why in the world would they tease you?" I winked. It was a mischievous question and I knew it.
