But she smiled just enough to be friendly, because she owed him a debt and it would not be wise to alienate anyone just yet.
"Fine, I think," she said. "To the clinic, at least. I haven't had much chance to explore yet." She gestured to her neck wound, still covered in bandages.

"Quicksand?" she asks, keeping her tone light. "That seems strange for a jungle."

She tensed slightly when he broached the subject of how long she would be here. He seemed keen for her to accept her fate, but Riza could not. She would willingly live with the consequences of her own decisions, but she would not sit down and let some mysterious, unknown force control her life. She refused to be that powerless.
"So I've been hearing," she said, her voice a few degrees colder than before. She had been reluctant to trust him before due to his inhumanity, but his evident desire for her to accept the island made her even more suspicious.
"I should get back to the clinic."
