Even after Kon had a made a point of inviting her, Cassie still hadn't been sure about going to the party he was throwing. Things had been left so awkward between them after the hurricane and the confessions it had caused and she didn't want to hinder anyone's fun. Plus...it was easier to have feelings for Kon away from him then it was in close quarters.

But Cissie was one of the guests of honor and she really hadn't given Cassie any say in the matter. So there she was, dressed in a tank, shorts and pig tails, attempting to have a good time and staying on the opposite end of the crowd from Kon.

Maybe she'd steal a hanglider. That would get her out of there for a while...

I hadn't really talked to Cassie since before Zell and I got together, and I thought it would be good to say hello, so I did. "Hey there," I said. "How's it going?"

Cassie was distracted keeping track of Kon in the crowd so it took a moment for her to realize that someone was talking to her. "Hmmm...oh. Hey Polly." She gave the other girl a friendly smile. "How are you?"

"Not bad," I said, following her gaze a bit and wondering who she was looking for. "I'm here with Zell, enjoying the party. On the first day I came here, I ended up at an after party for a musical Cole Porter put on. It really helped, so I thought I'd pay it back."

I shook my head. "Things are going great. We're..." I felt myself blushing a bit to admit this. I know it must seem so fast. "...We're going to move into a new place near the rec centre."

"Thanks," I said. "We're hoping to hold a housewarming party around the middle of October. And, of course, you're invited."

After all, she'd been one of the people who'd ended up pushing Zell and I together.

"Hey thanks. I'll be sure to be there." It was nice, seeing people so happy here. And Zell and Polly deserved it. Cassie just felt a little jealous.

"Cass!" Cissie grinned and pounced her best friend from behind, wrapping her arms around Cassie tightly. She knew she hadn't exactly wanted to come since Kon was giving the party and all, but she wasn't going to be allowed to be sad and mope. Not on her watch!

"So I'm thinking dancing first then food. What do you think?"

Despite her unease, Cassie grinned when she was pounced and leaned back into Cissie for a moment. Despite everything, she was so very glad to have her best friend here. It made everything so much easier to deal with. "I think that is a brilliant plan. Are you having fun? I saw you chasing Bart earlier, what did he do?"

Cissie squeezed Cassie happily then let go. "I am, actually. Bart whistled at me and I had to yell at him, but you know - it's almost like old times, really. I almost keep expecting to see Tim in a corner, letting off 'I'm a Bat, I don't know how to have fun vibes'."

"How about you? I know it's probably weird with Kon and all, but you're having fun, right? 'cause if not, I will totally fix that."

"Yeah...as awkward as it was when he was here, I miss him too." Cassie admitted, since now that Cissie and Bart were here, she had the want to have the whole gang together again.

Then she grinned at her friend. "I am don't worry. I'm just...staying away from him. But I have some other boys to pretend beat up and a daddy to dance with. But thanks."

"Ooh? Other boys? Don't keep me in suspense!" Cissie grinned and linked her arm with Cassie. "Do I need to help pretend beat them up too? I have to keep my hand in, you know. They've got to deal with the best friend now."

Cassie rolled her eyes, but bumped her hip with Cissie's. "Oh nothing like Chekov. Just some boys I spar with and make them look bad in front of their girlfriends. Sometimes I let them win...when I'm feeling nice."
