New Atlantis - gathering post

When the storm continued to worsen and it was apparent this storm was much more than a typical storm, the ITF went to work trying to warn people of what was coming and help them find a place to shelter in. New Atlantis was one of those places, since there was a ZPM powered shield--but Sam didn't want to turn it on until the last minute, so that as ( Read more... )

Guy wasn't actually planning to stay in. When the rain started pouring and word came about that this was no ordinary little storm (was there such a thing as an ordinary little storm on a tropical island?), Guy had all intentions to leave.

Perhaps he had left a window open, perhaps the bed-sheets were still hanging outside the hut. Whatever the excuse, there were certainly better places to be caught in when a storm was coming.

He was therefore leaving. Granted, the rain was pouring harder than he thought and the storm had caught up more quickly than he would have assumed and he probably should be thankful, but Guy Burgess chose to be annoyed when he heard the shield was up.

Daniel couldn't help but stare up at the shield. Ancient technology. He felt another of those little pangs of wistfulness at being here instead of out up there somewhere. He was so busy staring up that he didn't realize Guy was there until he'd bumped into him. "Oh. Hey. Didn't make it out in time?"

"If that shield is supposed to be so bloody advanced, they could have at least designed it to let people walk in and out," Guy remarked, annoyed. "Now, I'm stuck here for... fuck knows how long."

"Better in here than out there in that mess," Daniel pointed out. "Unless you really wanted to be blown away to who knows where." Of course, knowing Guy, he would have risked it for something. Not someone. Something.

“I would have found a different shelter. One more suited than your bloody bed-room.” Well if he was staying here, he was going to stay in Daniel’s room and not on some makeshift mattress in some improvised emergency sleeping hall.

“Does anyone in this lair know how long this storm will last?”

"Sorry, Guy. No one. It could last hours or days." He was pretty sure not minutes. It was too bad out there to just...stop. "What's wrong with my room?" As far as he knew there was nothing wrong. Then again, it was Guy, so he could just be complaining to complain.

"There isn't a liquor cabinet," Guy retorted dryly. "And the matress was horrid last time."

"No, there is no liquor cabinet because unlike some people, I don't have to drink all the time." Daniel shook his head. "And I'm surprised that you even remember the bed. You were pretty out of it."

“I remember everything,” Guy replied matter-of-factly. “I was only feeling sick. It happens."

"You don't," Daniel retorted. "You fell asleep in the middle of me talking, unless you're going to tell me that you were just faking."

"I remember everything up to the point where I fell asleep. Admittedly, that was unforseen, but you did put me to bed and took off my socks," Guy replied easily as though Daniel was to blame for his sleep.

"And you were the one who came knocking on my door," Daniel shot back. "Drunk, I might add." But of course that wasn't something that Guy wanted to talk about, drunk or sober.

"That's the one thing that slipped my mind. I know I had something to ask you, regarding class, that's why I came. It can't have been that important," he dismissed it easily.

"I don't know what to do with you," Daniel said heavily. "I would say that the time without alcohol would be good for you, but I doubt the storm would last long enough to do any good."

"So don't say anything and leave me be." Guy retorted, more harsh than he would have liked to have it sound.

"One of these days I'm going to do just that and then where will you be?" It was nice sounding in theory, but it was never going to work. He just couldn't leave his friend alone, even if it would be more help to him than not.
