The dubious legacy of the clothing dispensary located in the Compound's basement is not unknown to Spock. Human fashion as a concept generally escapes him, however, and prior to today he has given little attention to the complaints regarding the quality of the provided garments. Prior to today, he has been afforded appropriate and largely ( Read more... )

Niko wasn't much of a t-shirt wearer. Not the kind of shirt with logos or sayings, anyway, even if he did have to wear a t-shirt for practical reasons. It was easier to wear black, and lots of it, in his line of work; black tended not to show bloodstains and maintained an aura of professionalism.

"I see the box cares as little for you as it does for me," Niko mused, watching as the other man pulled out and discarded a shirt. A quick glance saw that it was printed across with a colorful saying. Figures.

"I don't have good luck with it either."

"Luck implies a sentient motivation," Spock replies as he drops the shirt back into the box. "My experience suggests an arbitrary selection of garments." It is, now that he considers it, entirely logical that he be given such inappropriate choices after such a successful run.

"Entirely arbitrary," Niko agreed. "But they all seem pretty focused on that...theme, for lack of a better term, and it's one that, at least to me, is distasteful and distracting. Clothing should be functional over anything else."

"Until today, I was routinely provided more appropriate options," Spock allows with a cant of his head. "It has been my understanding, however, that this is not common."

"Not in my experience," Niko said ruefully. "I would offer to try, but I don't know that it will give me anything better than you've been getting. How long have you been at it?"

"A few minutes, approximately," Spock answers. Not long enough to have become legitimately frustrated, at any rate. "I would perhaps be better served to return at a later time." His situation is not so dire that he is unable to walk home and find a replacement shirt in the interim.

"I would offer you one of my own shirts, but I think it would swim on you," Niko said, assessing the other man carefully. "My brother's, however, would probably fit."

Niko made a face then and snorted. "You...probably don't want to think about the potential infections you might pick up from a shirt my brother's worn, even if it has been washed in the last six weeks. All likelihood, it hasn't. I think you'd be safer with one from the box, no matter how dubious the mottoes."

"It would be preferable to continue wearing a soiled garment rather than replace it with any of the selection I have been provided," Spock explains with one last glance toward the box.

"Thank you for the offer," he belatedly remembers to add, despite that it had done him little good. Humans are very keen on lending gestures pointless weight, he finds.

"You're welcome," Niko offered in return, shrugging again. "The box is not like anything I've ever seen before considering I think it's actually out to make our lives miserable one lewd t-shirt at a time. Boxes shouldn't be sentient, should they?"
