Never before in his entire time on the island had Lennox been hit with so many disappearances at once. He was depressed as all hell, lonely, and pretty damn angry at the whole situation, but he hadn't talked about it much. There wasn't much to say and not many people left to even say it to, which was why he was sitting on the beach surrounded by ( Read more... )

"See, that's cats for you," Robin remarked objectively, thumbs hooked in the loops of her jeans as she approached, figuring that Lennox definitely looked like he'd had better days and Robin always approached potentially emotional situations with caution. "Never listening."

"I think he just misses Miguel," Lennox answered, tipping his head back to look at Robin as she approached, offering her a faint but genuine smile. At least not everyone had disappeared, even though it sort of felt like they all had. "He doesn't know what to do with me."

Robin sat herself down with a heavy 'thud' beside him, reaching out her hand for the joint that she always counted on with Lennox. "So..." she tentatively started to speak, not sure she wanted to poke this bear, but already started. "Gone?"

"Not just Miguel, but Eddie and Lily and the kids," Lennox confirmed with a nod. That had to be some kind of a record, he figured. "Five people at once. Just... I don't know. Slap a label on me that says 'here to watch everyone leave'."

Robin winced at that and yeah, there weren't enough comforting words in the world to try and make him feel better on this score. Because wow was it just uncomfortable. "You know I suck at this, right," she prefaced her words. "I mean, I really, really suck at this. I am the least comforting woman in the world...but, I am still so sorry, Lennox."

"You don't suck at it," Lennox said honestly, slipping an arm around her, because it was Robin and he loved her, no matter what. "If I recall correctly, you were awesome at comforting me after Chris disappeared."

He meant it as light teasing, but the smile fell a little short. "What about you? How're you doing?"

"Me? It's getting better," she admitted, but that helped because time was easing all wounds and blah blah blah. "I had a rebound," she offered, as if that was helpful. "And I keep trying to think of something that makes it so each day doesn't just show up and knock me off my feet with how crappy it could be if I let it. Why do men always get under your skin like that?" she had to wonder.

"Rebounds are usually good," Lennox agreed. But sometimes they got too damn serious.

"And, shit, baby, if I knew how people in general could get under your skin, I'd stop letting it happen," he said. "It'd make things a hell of a lot easier."

"God, yeah," she harrumphed in very severe agreement, shaking her head at the fact that this all seemed a lot harder than usual. Maybe because she couldn't run off to Argentina anymore. "Wanna come by my place and have a pity night with the dogs, cigars, and maybe we can bribe the radio station to play a lot of the Hip?"

"Any time, baby. You just name the day," Lennox said sincerely. Spending time with Robin was something that always made him feel better and these days he definitely needed it.

"Well, I'd say right now, but there are cats present," Robin said, with a general wave of the area as she let out a heavy sigh. "You should definitely bring a lot of pot," she said, as if that just occurred to her. "We should get so high."

"I always have pot," Lennox pointed out, which was the truth, but lately he felt like it wasn't even helping. He just felt normal. "Maybe there's something wrong with the shit I'm growing, though. It's not working."

"Or maybe your body's found a tolerance and you need to start cutting it with something?" Hey, she didn't grow up in British Columbia for nothing. When you had wild roaming bears dropping by every once in a while, it made things interesting. "Have you tried cutting in nicotine?"

"Not here," Lennox said, shaking his head. It was a possibility, but he hadn't really been interested in it. "That shit's so bad for you, man." Not that pot wasn't, but he was still of the belief that it was much healthier than nicotine.

Robin gave him a Look that said that he could think that all he wanted, but if she started getting lectures about smoking, she might put a boot up his ass. "Well, then maybe you should try a periodic cleanse? Go back to it after your system has detoxed a little?"

Lennox just grinned in response, although it didn't feel entirely real on his face. Not yet.

"A detox," he said, leaning back on his elbows, watching the dogs play. "Would I have to drink weird concoctions and like, starve myself, too. My mom used to do that sort of shit. Said it kept her regular, which is too much information, thanks a lot, mom."
