It has been seven days since the voice of the Lord went silent.
It used to be that God's voice spoke to Boyd every day. Every day since he woke up in that prison hospital a changed man. Even when he was unable to hear God, he could feel Him. The path was laid out straight at as arrow and Boyd knew his purpose, could see it clear as day. And now, seemingly stuck in this place of limbo, this Purgatory, Boyd is making his way on his own.
Some of it seems so obvious. The place is full of sinners. It's like a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah with a whorehouse thrown into the middle. Boyd understands the temptations. Idleness breeds all sorts of wrong doings, as Boyd well knows. He was once just like that. He was the worst of all that. But he can help, now. This has to be the Plan. Boyd has already been abandoned in the wilderness once and even here he is God's most faithful servant.
If he could just hear Him again. A sign, anything to know he's not wandering this path alone again.
He spends most of his days walking, having quickly realized that his attempts to share the Good Word were not impacting in the right way. Because Boyd doesn't know God's plan, yet. His feet do, however, keep leading him back to the whorehouse. Time and time again.
Rest is found underneath the shade of a tree as he looks on. He presumes the people he sees going in during the day are workers and there are several he recognizes from other places around the island. His knuckles whiten as he grips his Bible, waiting in perfect stillness to hear God's command.
Any moment now.
