She should have been relieved. Happy. Ecstatic, even. But what she felt was panic. The clinic staff had lost two of its' best doctors, Grey was now in charge, and it was only a matter of time before it became quite clear what a complete hack Sadie Harris had turned out to be. Her father was right: she wasn't cut out for this, and she never would be ( Read more... )

Blinking from her position on the couch, curled up with a book- Little Women, because childhood classics seemed to be the only texts that the bookshelf wanted to offer Claire that day, something she didn't want to think too deeply about- Claire shifted to the edge, lips curling into a wide grin. She hadn't quite gotten to the point where high school games were looked back with fondness- after all, she hadn't graduated yet. Nevertheless, the game was one that was familiar, which didn't require a lot of deep thought, and so she slipped to the carpet and sprawled on the ground, not minding the dirt that was probably there. What was the worst that could happen, after all? She'd scrape her knee, only to have it heal before she ever got back to her feet ( ... )

"Oh, that's good. I think I'll go with 'chet,' that one sounds the best. Or the least hideous, thereby making it best by default." Never too worried with being perceived as mature herself (even, at times, within the confines of hospital walls) Sadie extended her own hand freely and shook, grinning at the other blonde.

"I'm Sadie," she said, grinning in return. "So, shall I choose your three names for you or would you like to do it? I've come to realize you actually can't assume everyone around here knows who Brad Pitt is."

"It's very nice to meet you, Sadie," Claire replied with a tilt of her head, coy and Southern like the way Sandra taught her over the years. She was glad for the fact that Sadie seemed not to mind the age gap- and really, if Sadie was adjusting MASH for island life, how much could she rightly complain about? The mention of Brad Pitt knotted in her stomach, not because she had any particular affection for the actor, but instead because it was so frightfully normal that she could only beam by way of expressing her gratitude over such ease being possible on the island at all.

It really was a whole new life.

"And I totally know who Brad Pitt is, although I have to admit that I haven't really found him attractive since the whole switching over to Angelina thing," Claire rolled her eyes, lips still caught in an easy smile. "But I'm open to other suggestions? Just no one older than Johnny Depp, because he's already pushing it. I think he's older than my dad." She pulled a face at the very thought.

"I know what you mean; I was only ever into him around the Fight Club era anyway," admitted Sadie, giving a small eye-roll of her own. It was strange to think of anything as 'normal' as the Brangelina fiasco, having adjusted almost fully now to the way of life around here. Even stranger, perhaps, was the fact that something so odd as a celebrity media disaster could seem in anyway normal. Such where things on came to accept on Tabula Rasa, with time. Maybe.

"How about Milo Ventimiglia?" she suggested, calling back on years of lying in bed catching Gilmore Girls reruns on cable.

Gilmore Girls was a little bit before Claire's time, even if reruns seemed to pop up everywhere. She remembered the boys, though, if not the storylines- tall, roguish Dean with the floppy brown hair, and Jess with the puppy eyes. For a moment, she considered the latter, biting her lower lip before she dissolved into giggles and shook her head fervently.

"No, I don't think... I can do that," Claire laughed, running a hand idly through her hair to settle the curls. "Maybe Jared Padalecki, but Milo looks a lot like my uncle, so I'd rather not go there ( ... )

"Oh, that's a good one," Sadie nods. Every potential list needs its dud, and from the little she's read about the actor here and there, rumor has it that Murray is quite the asshole. She hesitates for a brief second, catching the smallest flicker across Claire's face, and emotion she can't quite place. It's gone, though, just as quick as it appeared, and if Claire's words are any indication, she'd rather not dwell on it. Sadie isn't about to deny her the right.

"And for number three, I know just what this list needs: an accent. Jude Law, maybe?"

"Oh, now that's just unfair to Jared and Chad," Claire laughed, scrawling Jude's name on the last blank of the three drawn, making sure to follow the name with a tiny drawn heart. Although Claire wasn't in the mood to speculate about relationships even in the lofty, celebrity crush sense, it was easy enough to latch onto the things that she used to fret about most. Namely, those with British accents always gained the most points. There was something attractive about a name that went even beyond the borders of Claire's own country. Exotic.

And gentlemanly.

But even as she continued filling in the chart- zero, two and a half, five, and twelve children- Claire looked up to examine her companion more carefully, wondering just what kind of woman would, at that age, decide randomly to play a game of MASH. "So, I'm pretty obviously a high schooler and everything, but... what did you do back home?" Claire asked, head slightly tilted.
