Time on the island was something of a relative concept, but the calendar said it was July the 4th today, and to Harry that meant only one thing: barbecue time. It'd been an awfully long time since he'd last set foot on American soil, and to him that made it all the more important to keep up with traditions from home. There were enough displaced Americans here that he felt sure of a good attendance; and heck, even if the USA and its history meant nothing to you, who here didn't enjoy a good party?

He'd had plenty of help in setting it all up. Sonya had not only lent a hand in digging a barbecue pit in the dell, but had brought along an entire hog to roast. Jane had promised to bring baked goods, and Lipton and Zell, along with a few other guys Harry was less well-acquainted with, had helped get tables and chairs into place. A very strange British guy had turned up with decorations, some of which seemed kind of inappropriate, but he'd been so excited and earnest Harry hadn't had the heart to reject his offer.

The weather was very humid today, and clouds were gathering in the distance, but Harry was too excited to care about any of that. The charcoal was smouldering away, the hog smelled delicious, and people were already starting to arrive. He was already feeling thoroughly patriotic. And hungry. But mostly patriotic.

[If you're not too busy with your own Independence Day celebrations, here's the TR one! Americans, non-Americans, friends and gatecrashers; all are welcome. Dated to afternoon, several hours before the rain starts. If any threads are set in the evening, the party will move to the Officer's Club when things get wet. Further information in this post in slated.]
