The island was up to its usual tricks, and while Bill empathised with the people who had woken up that morning in someone else's body - he'd been through it, once upon a time - he was relieved he'd been unaffected this go round

Honestly, Abby wasn't all that upset about her new body. She wasn't a zen ex con cop this time, she wasn't someone who was pregnant or a superhero or even someone who was really dumb. She was Wanda, whom she'd talked to before and respected as a person and a doctor. Sure, being a blonde was weird, and she felt very uncomfortable in her skin for some reason, plus she'd woken up and gone for a run, but it wasn't that bad.
One thing she was worried about, though, was the fact that she hadn't found her body yet. Whoever had it better not treat it badly, that was all she could say, and in hopes that she'd see herself, she went to Friday dinner as usual.
"Hey Coffee Guy," she greeted Bill cheerfully, and then blinked at the fact that her usual attraction to Bill, whom she saw naked on a regular basis, apparently made this body have bad squidgy feelings. Weird. She hadn't known Wanda had an aversion to men.
Coffee was officially Lorne's least favorite word. He never wanted to so much as see another cup of the stuff once he was back to his green self again. Did it come in fun colors or with fancy swizzle straws or tiny umbrellas? Nuh-uh.
His new body, darling as it was, seemed to have a certain affinity for it. And whatever Lola wants... Lorne has been trying to make sure she gets. It just didn't seem right to be a poor house guest.
"That isn't his real name, right...?" Because really, on an island that thought trading bodies was a hoot and a half, why not have a man named Coffee Guy?
It was really weird to look at yourself and not in a mirror. The voice, she wasn't so worried about. She'd heard recordings of her voice more than once, so that was almost normal, but the face, it was just weird, and in more than one way. At the same time, she was relieved that she wasn't wearing pastels or tanned or anything. Apparently whoever had her body was treating it nicely.
"Hey, you have my body," she said happily. "I've been wondering who got it. Who are you normally?"
That didn't answer the question about Bill's name, but they'd get there. Who had her body was more importnat.
"I'm normally Lorne. About yay high, superb fashion scene, green... Ah, you'd know me if you saw me; I kind of stick out like a sore thumb around here. But enough about me - you're Abby! Sorry about the abrupt eviction there, darlin'."
He obviously didn't have any more control over the situation than she did, but it never hurt to be polite when you were speaking to the owner of the body you were magically inhabiting.
"Green? Yeah, you would stand out," she replied bluntly, "There was a grey guy here for awhile, but he's gone now. Other than that, we're generally ... human-colored. Kinda boring if you ask me, but no one did."
She still felt itchy in this skin, and not just because it wasn't hers. It was like she was supposed to be something else while being something else.
"Nice to meet you, Lorne, and sorry about the caffeine addiction. The person who got my body last time didn't like it very much."
"Likewise, weird circumstances not withstanding." If nothing else, while he was in this body, not once did he have to deal with anyone stating the glaringly obvious fact that he was an unusual color. And the horns. There were only so many times he could be expected to explain those politely. "Wait a tick... Last time? This is a recurring thing?"
"Uh, yeah, actually," she replied, making a little face about it too.
"Last time, I was in the body of a male LAPD detective with a penchant for zen sayings and a woman named Teyla was in mine. At least you didn't have the girls with you. Now that would have been hard to explain."
"Small mercies." In a situation like this, it was probably a good idea to embrace even the dimmest of bright sides, he thought. The comment also helped shed some like on why there had been a kid's room with absolutely no kids in sight. "Is there a ballpark figure for how long these things usually last?"
"Oh, sure," Abby assured him, feeling good about being able to help a new person with navigating the ins and outs of island wackiness.
"Usually it's a couple of days, and then you're back to your normal self. I had a tendency to spout Zen sayings for a few weeks after the last time, though, so there's occasionally some side effects from borrowing a body."
"Hey, Coffee Bird in Wanda's body," Bill replied with a grin, looking up from his wok. Only Abby ever called him that, so it wasn't too much of a stretch to realise it was her. "How's your foray into someone else's body going so far?"
The ease of recognition had been exactly why she'd called Bill that, since it avoided all the whole who are you and what are you and whatever. It just worked better. Plus she always called him that.
"Actually, not too bad," she replied, getting herself a cup of juice since this body wasn't as fond of coffee. "Except I woke up this morning at the asscrack of dawn and went for a run, so I was a little worried I was insane."
Normally she would have kissed Bill too, but she thought he'd understand that she didn't.
"That does sound pretty insane," Bill said. "Well, not as much for Wanda." He nodded at the juice in her hand. "And it must be odd not having coffee. I'd kiss you hello but I don't think Wanda's body would appreciate the gesture as much."
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure she wouldn't," Abby chuckled. "But once I'm back in my body, I'm gonna collect that kiss."
It was probably the least threatening threat ever plus not even really dirty, but it still made her squidgy. So weird.
She glanced down at her juice. "Maybe this is the island trying to get me to drink less coffee? Stick me in a body that likes to go for runs and starts getting jittery if I have more than two cups?"
"Life's not fair," sighed Wanda, as if someone stuck in her body could understand where she was coming from. Sure, she hadn't been the biggest fan of it at first, but things could always be worse. Objectively speaking, it was a damn good body to have. At least it wasn't feeble and falling apart at the freaking seams like good old Davos here. "Some people just have all the luck."
Abby glanced up at the grizzled sailor-guy - David? Devo? - No, that was the band with the funny hats and frowned, since she really didn't understand those two statements. She wasn't in a bad body, of course, but she'd rather be in her own, if only so she'd stop wanting to go running. Usually she didn't run unless someone was chasing her.
"I'm sorry?" she replied, since she was a little unsure as to what Davos (Davos!) had meant.
"Not as sorry as I am," Wanda said with another weary sigh before she managed to buck up a bit and offer a wry smile. "That's my skin you're wearing, there. Although I've learned that possession is nine-tenths of the law with this sort of thing, so I suppose pronoun usage gets a little dodgy."
One thing she was worried about, though, was the fact that she hadn't found her body yet. Whoever had it better not treat it badly, that was all she could say, and in hopes that she'd see herself, she went to Friday dinner as usual.

It was as good a theory as any.
