Slowly and methodically, Karen is trying all of the food. She's wearing a glittery dress and fairy wings, she's got Puss Cat trailing from under one arm, and she's got a cake in one hand. Shadow and Rollie said she could come as long as she went home before her bed-time, but one of them will come get her so she can say good night to Josie.

For now, though, the cake is very good.
She absently picks up another one and puts it into the pocket of her dress.

"Careful you don't make yourself sick," Edmund advised, coming up behind Karen just as he saw her slip a treat away. "You can have sweets any day. No need to eat them all up now."

"I'm just trying a little bit of everything," says Karen, slipping her free hand into Edmund's without thinking about it. "Not enough to make myself sick, I promise. I hate being sick. It's yucky, isn't it?"

"Very yucky," he agreed solemnly. "Are you just going to eat or are you going to dance too?"

Karen thinks about that for a long moment, swirling the glittery skirt of her dress back and forth. She squints up at Edmund, giving him a look that could only be described as 'calculating'.

"Are you going to dance with me? Won't Charlie be sad?"

Edmund did his best to look innocent and unassuming under Karen's gaze, in large part because he was. "I was going to ask you to, if you'd like. Charlie won't be sad if he only misses out on a dance or two."

"I think..." She thinks about it for another moment, and then she holds out her other hand, wiggling her fingers expectantly. "I'd like to dance with you. If I can stand on your feet."

"You're not wearing high heels are you?" Edmund asked, playing serious as he glanced down at Karen's tiny feet. "I don't want any holes in my feet," he said, taking her hand.

"I'm not wearing high heels!" says Karen, who is, actually, wearing jelly princess shoes, because they're pink and glittery and really, really pretty. She looks down at them.

"I can take my shoes off altogether if you want."

"No," Edmund said, grinning. "I think we're good as we are, don't you?"
