In general, trying to hide behind a record wasn't the best idea in the world. Trying to hide behind a record with your picture splashed all over the back was an even worse idea, especially when it said in large and gigantic glittery letters MAKE IT SPARKLE. Of all the things that she could be holding, this was a bad idea. She was going to put it ( Read more... )

Upon entering the rec room Harry noticed someone hiding behind a record, which didn't look like the sort of music he would be interested in at all. He probably would have just gone straight to the bookshelf and not worried about why she was hiding, except that he heard her speak.

"It's a bit early for that, isn't it?" he asked, cheerfully ignoring that there were times when he'd have drunk at any time of the day.

"Not if it gets people to go away," Robin said just as brightly, trying to make everyone get out so she could make a break for it and go stomp and jump all over the record and break it into a zillion little shameful pieces. "I mean, come on. It's five-o-clock somewhere, right?"

"I suppose so." It didn't mean he was going to go off and get drunk, though. "Why do you want people to go away?"

"Mostly so I can just kind of sneak away," she admitted, because between the record and the jukebox piping in with her greatest hits every time she even made a move for the door, she didn't exactly need anymore attention called to herself. So of course everyone kept coming in to just hang out.

"I'm not stopping you from leaving." Harry turned his back to her to look at the bookshelf, but then got curious as to what she was doing and looked over his shoulder. "You can even take the record with you, if you like it so much."

"Yeah, but I move, and the jukebox glares to life. And then people turn and look, and then I get all pink with shame," she explained, letting out a dubious scoff. "And then I have to suffer even more because suddenly I'm being stared at while bad music is playing."

"What?" Harry frowned. He was completely lost in this conversation. "Why? The jukebox plays bad music more often than not."

"Yeah." She didn't know how to get out of this without admitting it was her music. "But this stuff is uh. Well, it hits closer to home," she said delicately, hoping that would do the trick. "Besides, why are we still talking about me when I should be asking about you and Rover."

"Oh, Rover's fine. He's outside if you want to see him." That, he was sure, was something that would get her to leave, despite the music. "I'm sure if you ran you wouldn't hear much of what the jukebox played."

"I might have to visit him," Robin admitted, having a good deal of affection for that dog. She'd spent a lot of time with him when training and she didn't just forget all of them. "And it's not really so much me as other people. No one deserves to hear nineties pop from Canada," she said, like it was a fate akin to drowning.

"I'm sure he'd love to see you." Admittedly, Rover loved anyone who gave him attention, but he had spent more time with Robin than anyone else. "Was pop particularly bad in Canada in the nineties?" He hadn't really paid much attention to the dates of everything the jukebox played, or where it came from.

"Well, we didn't get the eighties until the early nineties," she said, which was a pretty sad admission to begin with, without adding all the costume stuff about bedazzled jackets and this and that. "So, you know, we had a lot of catching up to do already in figuring out synthesizers didn't make the song."
