Council Election Party

May 31, 2010 12:37

It was always a good day when the democratic process had been carried out without a hitch, and this day was no exception. The results of the latest Island Council election were in, and it was time to celebrate, not only the results, but the process itself. And given the number of hardships they endured on the island, a celebration was something ( Read more... )

Henry had only been the council rep for the psych department for a short time, since Chase Meridian disappeared, but it had been interesting so far. It had given him more of an insight to the way things on the island were run, how things were organized, and Henry was pretty impressed by how smoothly things seemed to go for the most part, relatively speaking. With no organized government, things could have just as easily descended into chaos. Henry didn't really relish the thought of his glasses being smashed and a rock being pushed onto him a la Piggy.

Tonight was for celebrating, congratulating the newly elected, and Henry was happy to do so. Once he had a drink from the bar at the Hub, though, he couldn't help making a silent toast to Pete, the Beav, Jonesy, and Duddits. SSDD, boys. SSDD. A smile curved at one corner of his lips, and he knocked the drink back.

It always feels strange, addressing him outside of the Psych Office, without the structure of their scheduled appointments, but it feels equally strange, passing him in a crowd and pretending she doesn't know him.

Smiling faintly, one hand resting on the prominent swell of her belly, she says, "Hello, Dr. Devlin. Lovely night, isn't it?"

"Hi, Sarah," Henry replied with a friendly smile. "It is, and a great night for a party. How are you feeling? Can I get you anything?"

"I'm fine, Henry," she says with a warm laugh, "Big as a house, but feeling fine tonight. How are you?"

"I'm good," Henry said, after a short moment's consideration. Sometimes it was a real fuckarow, being on the island, but there were good things there too. "Enjoying the island's hospitality and tendency to have great parties."

"It does tend to take pity on us, now and then," she says of the island, which had been kind to her as of late, but had not always been.

"I wonder if it's supposed to be compensation for everything else we get put through," Henry observed. "Like the gifts in January. It still seems a little lopsided, though."

"Compensation, or a distraction," Sarah suggests, a knowing smile curving her lips. "Whatever it is, I suppose all we can do is enjoy it."

"Well said," Henry replied, nodding his agreement. "Why look a gift horse in the mouth, right? At least when the horse is bearing decent booze and good company."
