Council Election Party

May 31, 2010 12:37

It was always a good day when the democratic process had been carried out without a hitch, and this day was no exception. The results of the latest Island Council election were in, and it was time to celebrate, not only the results, but the process itself. And given the number of hardships they endured on the island, a celebration was something ( Read more... )

Sally hadn't smoked in years. Years and years and more years because it made her skin look horrid. And yet, she was carrying a pack of cigarettes on her because Margot had left them and had taken herself away and off, back to a land where everyone was probably sane. Sally didn't exactly look kindly on such abandonment and was not precisely there for the celebration of the new Council insomuch as she was there in order to take advantage of the large amount of drinks.

"No," she said of the wine. "No," she added at the sake, wrinkling her nose at anything with a too-low alcohol content. "I'm sure someone around here could get me some sort of paralyzer shot. I'm sure that exists."

"I'm not quite sure if it's different where your from," Alistair said, conversationally, as he watched Sally talk to what appeared to be alcohol. "But being paralyzed is usually a bad thing, isn't it?"

"It's also usually a shot of alcohol where I come from," she replied, considering she didn't want to suddenly be struck in the back of the spine with a particularly sharp object. It wouldn't really do well for her, in the end. "It's just got a very apt name."

"I think the appeal is still being lost to me, then," he said, sounding just a little amused still. He didn't doubt there were drinks that strong where he was from, and Oghren likely had a few dozen of them at once. "I would say dwarven alcohol would do the same thing if it were here, but I wouldn't wish any of that on anyone."

"My friend vanished," Sally said, feeling like that was the best explanation for why she was looking to alcohol to utterly wipe her mind from things. "And she's my only healthy female friendship and right now, right this moment, I want nothing more than to forget how to even walk and if that dwarven alcohol of yours could do the trick, I'd say 'come on in'."

His smile fell, replaced by a sympathetic look. He had heard of these disappearances and how terrible they were. That she was dealing with one now made her wanting to get very drunk make sense.

"I think there are probably much better tasting alcohols to do what you want it to do," he said instead, frowning a little bit. "I'm sorry for your loss. I hadn't realized."

"Everyone loses, this is just a really, really annoying one," she accused, because she liked having Margot. It made her feel normal again to have a female friend. And now she was awash in a disgusting sea of male testosterone once more.

Eugh, she thought. "And what do you recommend, if not getting utterly tanked?"

She was right, of course. And if not the island, something else might. He had seen too many of his comrades die in battle not to know what it felt like to deal with something so final.

"Good company, perhaps?" he suggested. He personally was a sulking mess, but he didn't think that to be the best advice to give. "Or mediocre company, if you wanted to come sit with me."

"I wouldn't say no," she admitted, considering that to ignore a handsome bloke like him would be absolutely insane and she was too tired to be too neurotic. She exhaled a long deep breath and looked him over. "Why are you only mediocre? I would rate you far higher than that."

"I'm flattered," he said with a smile, offering an arm if she so wished to take it. It was always easier to be self-deprecating, he found. "I hope to continue to live up to that opinion."

"Oh, don't be flattered, not when you look like that," she said dismissively, waving her hand around his face and body. "You're probably flattered all the time by women trying to sneak into your pants. You don't have to pretend it's the first time."

He couldn't stop an embarrassed laugh from bubbling out. He was actually pretty sure he'd miss that if it did (or had) happened.

"If they do, I haven't noticed," he said, waving the compliment away. And yes, he saw this compliment at least. "Though I'm not used to looking for them. It comes with the 'being preoccupied by bad things' life I led."

"Well, are you preoccupied with any bad terrible naughty no-good things here?" she asked pointedly, hands on her hips as she stared at him directly.
