The thing with babies was, they grew - and they grew fastDevon and Ellie were doctors, they knew the rate Madeline would be growing at, when her check-ups were needed, when her milestones - both medical and personal - were coming up. Together, they were an intelligent pair of parents who would do anything for the kid they loved with everything they ( Read more... )

Every so often Grigg had been known to claim that he was good with kids. He was, truly, but with the caveat that he was good with kids that were not his. Once they got to the age where they could walk, talk and roughhouse being an uncle had become infinitely easier. A lot of that had to do with his sister's decreased levels of worry and increased willingness to temporarily part ways with them.

Not wanting to interfere with the guy's clothesbox quest, he hung back a little bit. "I can't say that I'd be much help, but I want say that if you need a second pair of searching hands I could always try," he offered ater a minute's thought. It couldn't hurt.

"I could use an extra hand," Devon replied. He was never one for turning down help if he needed it, especially when someone offered. "I'm just looking for anything between three to twelve months, that isn't bedazzled, velour, or tie dye."

You wouldn't think they made baby clothes in velour, but it happened.

Stepping up to the box, Grigg thought that over. It didn't seem like that hard of a challenge, but he knew that the box was fickle when a person was looking for specifics.

Reaching a hand in he pulled out a very tiny tutu. That just didn't see right at all. "And I take it nothing made for tiny dancers?"

"Probably not," Devon said, giving the tutu an amused look. "Madeline's a little too tiny to be dancing just yet."

"Not exactly what Elton John had in mind, I don't think." The song reference was almost automatic as Grigg dropped the tutu back into the box and picked up something else.

Animal printed and it came with a tail.

Devon paused in the middle of folding a simple pair of tiny blue pants. He tilted his head as he tried to understand just what it was he was looking at. "That's...interesting. It's a costume, right? Like a halloween costume?"

"I think so. I mean, I hope so." Tossing it back in with a shake of his head, Grigg finally managed to pull out something that looked reasonable. Or as reasonable as he could figure with his limited experience.

Checking the tag on the tiny jean jacket, he held it out to the guy. "Here you go. I think this works."

"It's definitely a start." Devon took the jacket, setting it aside with the other clothes he'd already collected. They'd learned over time that being picky wasn't exactly an option. "Better than most of the crap that's in there."

"I don't think they actually dressed kids this bad during the eighties," Grigg said by way of agreement. He had been a kid during that time and from what he could remember it had been a lot of stripes. And a few strange sweaters.

"This has to be made up."

"I really hope it's made up. Putting kids in that has to amount to child cruelty or something." Devon picked something out of the box that seemed to be a tiny variation of something a guy would probably find on a stripper. "It's just wrong."
