Try though Serena might to keep herself busy, sooner or later, around here, it seemed she always ran out of things to do. More often than not, she wound up sitting in the Hub on the weekends, just to be somewhere with a crowd. It was a little sad, she thought, but more so because she knew, if he'd still been here, Chuck would have told her it was. ( Read more... )

"So what is it, blondie?" Rizzo asked, drink in hand and provoking smile on her face, sitting down at the next table over from the girl, her legs crossing almost reflexively. "Bad breath? Scurvy? Personality of a wet fish?"

Serena laughed, brow furrowing, a touch confused but not minding. "Who, me?" she asked. "Hm. Maybe the last one. Definitely feeling a little fishy today, and I'm pretty sure scurvy's not much of an option around here." There was something familiar about the other girl, but then, she could have said that about most people here.

"'S gotta be something, or you wouldn't be sitting over here all by your lonesome." She said, taking a drink out of the glass in her hand. Rizzo wasn't exactly one to talk, she didn't exactly have a hoard of comrades to sit around and chat with. She was an independent sorta gal, but she never realized how much she'd miss having the Pink Ladies around when they were gone.

Serena laughed, brow going up a little. "Guess so," she admitted. "I guess I just wasn't feeling much like company for a little while there. But hey, you're talking to me, so it can't be all hopeless, right? I'm Serena." It was sort of a relief to have another girl her own age to talk to these days. She had a few stand-by friends, but still she managed to feel pretty lonely a lot of the time.

"If I'm all you got, honey, it's not a good sign." Rizzo warned easily, "And if that was your 'keep away' face, than you must be pretty new to this shunning of society thing."

She nodded, and she couldn't help thinking that it was a perky enough name to go with the blonde hair. She was getting goddamn tired of blondes, to be honest, even if good ol' Sandra Dee had turned out to be kind of alright under the goodie-two-shoes bit. "Rizzo," She said in response to the introduction.

Serena nearly corrected her, nearly said she was pretty good at shunning society, but given that the one time she'd really done it, she'd had to skip town to pull it off, maybe Rizzo wasn't so wrong.

"I'll have to practice my glare," she said. "But it's nice to meet you, Rizzo. You been here long?"

"Two weeks," she said, and idly put the glass down on the table, reaching for her ever-present clutch and clicking it open. She knocked out a cigarette, and tucked it between her lips. "It's all sunshine and lollipops so far, but I hear it'll get more The Blob and less Beach Blanket Bingo sooner or later."

Not really recognizing either reference, Serena smiled easily anyway, nodding. "Yeah, it gets pretty weird here," she agreed. She turned to gesture to the bartender for another drink before looking back to Rizzo. "I mean, just showing up here's pretty weird to begin with, but... Just when you think everything's gonna be boring forever, something really strange happens."

"And how long have you been here?" She asked, lighting up her cigarette with her sliver lighter, and ignoring how empty the smokes box was when she closed her clutch again. Either she'd need more of those, or she had some cranky days ahead. "Well, the place is already in my good books. Thought I was in a jam when I got here, but turned out to be a false alarm. I'm willing to take some really strange for that."

"I know the feeling," Serena said, grin crooked as she shook her head. Whatever jam Rizzo had been in, she didn't know and it was probably more than just trying to duck out of an awkward dinner, but she'd had a few near misses with trouble in her time. "I've been here about two years now. Aside from getting you out of trouble, it's... you get used to it after a while."

"You're just a ray of sunshine, ain't you?" She leaned back in her chair, smiling. She liked figuring people out, in a odd sort of way. "What sorta glory days did you come from that life on a desert island, craziness and all, is so glum?"

Taking the drink that came, Serena rolled her eyes, mostly at herself, and grinned. "At least back home, I had my family," she said, "and I lived in New York and... this is so not the city by any stretch of the imagination. But really, this place can be great. It really can be. The people are really wonderful." It just wasn't home.
