The clothes have a way of making the girl. Having picked up a pair of cute yellow heels from the clothes box she was partially attempting to break them in. These shoes were definitely worth the effort, even if she probably had a few gray hairs from the whole thing but that wasn't the point

Unfortunately, the island didn't seem obliging that day, and with a little disgruntled mumbling here and there, the young woman packed up her belongings and started to head back in the direction of the compound. She'd had the foresight, luckily, to take an umbrella with her for the day to block against the strongest rays; although it was a little cumbersome and not at all being put to the use Sookie had hoped for, it was still able to keep her clothing and hair safe from the rain. Little favors.
Seeing someone who looked similarly distraught at the oncoming rain, Sookie hurried on over, offering shelter under the admittedly large umbrella without being prompted. "My thoughts exactly," she remarked, rolling her eyes and shaking her head at the sky above.

It was an uncharacteristically nice thing to do for someone you didn't know. It reminded her vaguely of Serena, but that could have just been the blonde hair working for her. The fact that this girl looked like one of the girls from Almost Famous after a questionable dye job stopped her from saying anything.
"I get that it is a tropical island and sunshowers happen, but I would like just a little bit of rolling thunder before it happens," Blair sighed with a matching eye roll.

Still, just to help keep her from looking like someone completely off their rocker, Sookie laughed lightly. "It still feels weird tryin' to think of a hunk of land as possibly sentient." Now that she was focused more on the other girl, Sookie couldn't help feeling a little outclassed from the get-go, but as she was the umbrella benefactor, the waitress managed to swallow a bit of that hesitation and held out a hand regardless. "Anyway, I'm Sookie Stackhouse."

Arching eyebrow in a practiced motion, she worked to keep from looking too judgemental. She had been the one having a one-sided conversation with a cloud not thirty seconds ago.
Taking the hand, she gave it a squeeze and mild shake. Shaking hands was so pedestrian. "Blair Waldorf."

So she'd extend the benefit of the doubt, consider the hesitation perhaps a well-deserved response to bursting of a young woman's personal bubble.
Even if the arched brow reminded her a little of Dawn.
"Blair, it's so nice to meet you. And for what it's worth, the dress and heels are absolutely adorable," Sookie smiled gently, hand moving back to hold her shoulder bag in place as she held the umbrella over both their heads. "Where are you originally from? New York?"

Everyone had motives and they were almost never of the altruistic variety.
"Thank you." She nodded her head, her smile relaxing slightly. It was easier to think of this woman as a Serena type figure. Elusive, strangely and so blinding bubbly it was like staring into the sun. Fighting the rising irrational jealous she instead focused on something a bit more fun: clothes. "Your dress is darling as well. I see the box has decided to be nice in shades of yellow." Figures. "But yes, New York. Manhattan actually."

Pressing her lips together and still mentally crossing her fingers tightly, hoping she wasn't being judged too much, Sookie's gaze then trailed over to Blair's dress again. It was so... prim and proper. Of course, it looked gorgeous on Blair, but Sookie couldn't help feeling as though she'd just met a porcelain doll of some sort.
"But yes, it looks like the box was especially kind to you. Does it often give you trouble? It seems to like givin' me sundresses, which is kind of my standard most days anyway."

But this Sookie probably only had twelve people back home that she wasn't related to and she didn't particularly feel like bursting that bubble. The rain had put a damper on her mood to do evil. Or at least it had sent it scattering for shelter.
"Are you now? I've been New Orleans, but that was..." Blair shrugged as if it had been a blip on her memory. It had been before Katrina, thank god and only barely, for Mardi Gras when she was fourteen and feeling in the mood to be boozy amongst others. Times had been simpler then.
Absently running a hand over her damp dress, she nodded and changed the subject. "Sometimes it likes to give me leather and lace. But forturnately I was given a lovely wardrobe a few years ago. The nicest thing this place has done for me in a while."

Her mind was quickly thrown off, however, by Blair's mention of the wardrobe-- or more specifically, how long ago the young woman had been gifted with it. Lips parting slightly, Sookie shook her head to herself, eyes briefly pressing closed. "Wait, a few years ago-- do you mind if I ask how long you've been on the island? My brother, Jason, he told me that he's been on Tabula Rasa for over a year already, and I thought that was bad enough."

"Always impressive." And sort of charming, like going to a festival in some remote town but not wanting to live there. That's exactly how she viewed them. Frowning for a moment at the name Jason she quickly let out a laugh as things slid into place. "Oh my god, you're the sister of that guy Jenny used to date."
Reply
"Jason Stackhouse's little sister, yeah, that'd be me," she nodded sheepishly, brows furrowed with a bit of concern. "You're the second person who's mentioned him datin' Jenny - I met this girl, Serena, in the laundry room, and she's a real sweetheart; I'm guessin' that you know her, too? And... I didn't really want to ask, but now I'm worried - did he treat Jenny okay?" The blonde flinched a little preemptively, not sure whether she'd be happy with the details or not.

Placing a hand to her chest in a gesture that was almost ripped from Gone With the Wind, she laughed and nodded resisting the compulsion to shake her head. "Oh yeah. It was just a shock since she was barely sixteen and he was so obviously not. Definitely something else."
Reply
"She was what?" Sookie exclaimed, eyes immediately widening before her lips pressed firmly in a tight line. "Oh, when I see him next, he is going to regret having done that."
Reply
Mostly. "Oh, it's over now. Doesn't that make everything fine?"
It didn't but Blair was trying be diplomatic about the whole thing. Whether or not she was successful at that was negotiable.

"I mean, I'm glad that she's... okay now, but there's really no sixteen-year-old who should be datin' my brother ever," she added with widened eyes. "And even if other people have bitched him out for it, doesn't mean that I can't give him a bit of a reminder. She's... she is okay, right?"
