It was like something out of a really bad after school special, only Coop was fairly certain that they were both way too old to ever be featured in one of those. Being nearly thirty, however, apparently did not stop the tiny little voices of his mothers in his ears from chiming in. He hadn't even done anything and they still somehow managed to ( Read more... )

Tonight, Sadie gravitated toward the rec room quickly, the worst combination of bored and annoyed. She wasn't masochistic enough to try her hand at the book shelf - she'd heard horror stories - but there was a TV, there were video games, and although she hated to accept that this was her new definition of fun, she wasn't feeling desperate enough to brave the strip club just yet.

One glance at the exchange going on in here and her jaw dropped, though her lips were slowly curving into a grin (equal parts amusement and disbelief). "You can't be serious."

"Why not?" Lew asked, evening out the lines carefully. It was a wonder anyone was shocked by anything when they all lived on magical dino island. "I'm serious as a heart attack," he said, sparing a glance and cocky smirk for the boyscout before shifting his gaze to the newcomer.

"I'm sure you are," Sadie smirked, an eyebrow raised. She crossed and uncrossed her arms, finally letting them fall to her hips, and edged closer to where he sat, watching over his shoulder. "Here I was thinking supplies were vastly limited on this island - recreational or otherwise. Where did you get it?"

"Knew a guy who had a boat. Guy disappeared, boat didn't, found a decent sized stash of the stuff on-board." It sort of just went to prove that you never really knew a person till they up and vanish into thin air and you went through their shit. Lew had always taken Michael for the kind of guy who kept on the straight and narrow, only to find two bricks of coke he'd been hoarding. Sure, none of it had been touched as far as he could tell, but that wasn't the point.

"And you helped yourself," she finished with a nod. "You're not worried, doing this out here in the open?" Sadie hazarded a glance over at the other man in the room, who seemed less than pleased with what was currently going down in here.

"Waste not, want not. Or so the saying goes. And the grumblings of the occasional prude aside, this shit technically isn't really illegal here." The strange looks and disapproving comments he could definitely handle like a champ, so the only worrying he'd ever do was when he started running low.

"No, I guess it's not," Sadie agreed. "I'd heard this place was pretty liberal, but - I mean, you'd think someplace so 'liberal' would have more in the way of fun than a bar and a strip club." It seemed such a tragic waste of opportunity, really.

"And that strip club is only a bit over a year old. Who knows what the fuck people did before then." Building sandcastles and watching clouds had to have gotten old fairly quickly. Or so he imagined, 'cause he'd never actually done either of those.

"You got anything specific in mind? I mean, if you're going to turn your nose up at what's here that's fine and all, but you can't really complain if you're not prepared to bring something better to the table."

Sadie shrugged. "I was on my way to Europe before being stranded here. I think I'm allowed some degree of bitterness. Besides, a place like this? The beach parties could practically throw themselves."

"Either way," she continued, smirking, "you strike me as the kind of man who knows just how useless it is to rely on others for a good time."
