It was never too early to teach kid about the important things in life, and Devon was more than eager to do that. Despite Madeline being a couple of days shy of a month old, he'd already taken to telling her about sports -- and it seemed to calm her down, something that Devon found pride in, even though he knew she probably just liked hearing the ( Read more... )

"...because some people think that running about pointlessly is interesting-" William said, before he noticed that he and Olivia weren't alone on the field. She hadn't warned him, mostly because she'd been trying to get her hand in her mouth again, and missing.

He wasn't sure if that meant she wasn't listening, mostly because he was sometimes unsure when she was looking right at him.

"Um, hi," he said. He wondered if he should make Olivia wave. People did that sort of thing, didn't they?

"Hey," Devon replied, giving William a quick wave. He then caught one of Madeline's legs in his hand and waved that, too. "You showing Olivia around, too?"

"Well, I'm carrying her around," William said, "I don't know how much she's taken in, so I'm not sure about calling it showing. Er, Maladicta seemed like she needed a break."

"Yes, precisely," William agreed, "which meant I had to leave the building, since otherwise the moment she made a fussing noise, Maladicta would wake up. I'm pretty sure that would hold true even if I was two floors away."

Olivia made a noise. William glanced around as if the intervening distance might still not be enough.

Devon gave Madeline a little rock when she began to fuss, since he'd stopped talking and moving constantly. He knew it wasn't the best habit to get into -- he couldn't talk to her or take her on walks all the time -- but they were having such a good day and he wanted to keep it going.

"We're the same. I don't think I've gotten more than a couple hours of deep sleep since Ellie had her." It didn't help that even as tired as they were at night, he'd still wake up when she made noises in her sleep.
