Venturing Out

Feb 02, 2010 17:30

It's been two weeks. It's an understatement to say it feels like longer. She wasn't sure she'd even be able to make it this far, but at the end of the day, she doesn't really have a choice. Her whole world is now narrowed down to the little guy stumbling along the beach in front of her. Sam's been consistently silent and subdued, so Kate's more than willing to let him walk to his little heart's content. It's healthier than the two of them clinging to each other.

Kate scrubs a hand across her bloodshot eyes as she steps carefully behind him. Sleeping isn't a priority right now, as much as just getting through the night. Sam still seems happy to sleep in their....her bed. He doesn't look for Jack as much as in the first week. She's not sure if that's good or completely awful. That's kind of par for the course right now. She swings between enraged and desperate to just...flat. Flat is easier. Flat keeps Sam from suffering the fallout of her being upset all of the time. She tries to keep Anne in mind, a lot of the time, and the way she handled herself after Ariel left. It's easier said than done and she suspects that she'll never be nearly as mature a person as Anne.

She pulls herself out of her thoughts long enough to stop behind Sam as he suddenly turns at the sound of someone coming, and sucks in a breath at the first word she's heard since Jack left.

"Hi."

[ooc: IDEK! I know I posted her just a few weeks back, but suddenly she wanted out again. She's pretty together right now, so open to all. She probably won't cry on your shoulder unless you prompt it. She's walking on the beach with Sam. Assume he said 'hi' loud enough to be heard by your pup.]
