I'd come in early to bake bread, bringin William with me since Spike was nowhere to be found. I had him settled in his playpen for the majority of the day, only picking him up once I had dinner set out

"Someone missing?" Ronon asked, as he stepped into the kitchen watching Vala with her son. He picked up a still warm muffin and pulled a bright blue feather out of his hair. He'd cleaned that up for the baby to play with. He held it out so William could reach for it if he wanted.
"Oh, I highly doubt it. Just his father...he's been scarce," I replied. William took the feather slowly and studied it for a moment before showing it to me. I nodded.
Ronon was unimpressed with this news - not that he knew much about William's father. He didn't think that was much of a way to go on but if Vala had a problem with him or wanted Ronon's help tracking him down she'd probably soon say so. "Good," he said. "You?"
"I'm doing well. I'm waiting for a gift. I didn't get one last year until the last day of the month, but everyone has gotten something it seems, so of course I won't be left out. I mean, honestly, if anyone should get gifts, it's me," I told him...then narrowed my eyes a little. "Have you gotten something yet?"
"There's still tomorrow," he pointed out. The island probably got a kick out of making her wait when she was wanting a gift. What he got was useful but he would marry Jennifer even if he couldn't make her a ring. "Yeah, I got what I need to make Jennifer a ring." It was mostly done now - he wasn't sure if he should give her it when it was or save it for the wedding.
"That's lovely," I said, a warm and genuine smile crossing my lips. "There are details of the wedding that need to be discussed. For instance, do you have a kind of cake you like?"
I could do nearly anything and I thought, maybe, it shouldn't be all up to Jennifer. Although most weddings I had known of had minimal input from the groom.
Ronon didn't have a cake preference. All he wanted for the wedding was to marry Jennifer and to have the other details as she wanted. Besides cake was cake - anything was fine. Which did at least bring up one memory.
"Strawberry," he said. Jennifer had made it once - it had been terrible because Jennifer was a awful cook. But if she had tried for it then she must like it and that was all Ronon wanted.
"Strawberry it is, then," I nodded. That was simple enough.
"All the rest will be taken care of. All you'll have to do is be there. Honestly, Jennifer couldn't have made a better decision than asking me to be her maid of honor. I'm a fantastic party planner. Your wedding will be wonderful."
Ronon paused then. He knew Vala was maid of honour - he did not know that this involved party planning. "Yeah," he said carefully. "We just want something simple."
"Simple weddings are for peasants," I pointed out, not that I really expected Ronon to be swayed by that.
"Are you sure you don't want a reception with as many people as we can cram into one place?" I asked...then added, "It generally means you get more presents."
A reception was with as many people as they could get crammed in to New Atlantis did not rate high on the list of what Ronon wanted. It was not - to his knowledge what Jennifer wanted either. It was not about presents, a point of view he was pretty sure that would drive Vala to at least pretend outrage.
"Jennifer wants simple," he stated. "The bride gets to choose."

"How have you been, Ronon? Other than engaged?"

"Simple," I repeated, though to my ears it almost sounded like a dirty word. Mostly because I wasn't sure if I knew how to do simple.
"Simple is...nice. I'll do my best to make it just what you two want."
