Life was surely a little different, Serenity was a little louder with the baby, and her set of lungs, though nothing Kaylee minded, it was what babies did. Hell she'd probably scream loud as she could if she had no way of telling folk what she wanted otherwise, and it'd change in time. As was expected, the baby was her parents world, just like it ought to be, wating to do everything right. Kaylee was doing her best to be of help where she could, keeping the galley all neat and tidy, fetching supplies as well; though the Captain nor River never were to keen to let her cook, even if she insisted best she could, supposing they just wanted to do their equal share too. And in the end Kaylee wasn't left out so much, they let her hold the new baby and see her plenty, but still the mechanic decided didn't want to keen poking her nose in and crowding in on things when a baby was all about being a new proper little family and learning how to get through it all, and being and Aunt was just fine with her, she'd long ago offered her babysitting services.
As much as Kaylee could tinker away, taking apart and fixing bits and pieces that were already clean as a whistle, or sitting perfect, there was only so much to be done on Serenity and keen not to get underfoot, she often set out wandering.
Mĕi nǚ was with her, trotting placidly at her side, occasionally weaving out at a lope to follow a curious sent, Kaylee happy to wander aimlessly, usually along the way she'd find a big bit of driftwood to give her direwolf, finding she liked to carry them but that as a direwolf she was none too partial to fetch.
Today, she found something surprisingly different, firstly because it was a large crashed vehicle of sorts, secondly because she found her name painted on the side in bold letters, in the same slightly damaged burnt red that off-set the white. It looked sort of familiar, in a way she couldn't place, other than that it was meant to fly, well sort of, like the Mule, but it definitely wasn't a Mule, looked more like something more common in Alliance hands, though she didn't recognise the symbol on the side at all.
The vehicle looked in pretty bad shape, for one it wasn't just sitting on the sand, it was lodged in it.. like whoever owned it, or however it got to be here, had crashed it smack into the small dune, the nose buried. Kaylee hopped toward the rear and inspected the back two engines (and what she suspected were guns), neither looked damaged or burnt out. Though she needed to examine them more closely.
Kaylee stepped back, tilting her head as gave the thing another look over. "How are we gonna get you back home?" She asks rhetorically, however it seems Mĕi nǚ has the solution already, at least the best she can, bounding over to the sunken nose of the speeder and starting to throw great showerings of sand up as she digs.
