Sledding!!

Dec 07, 2009 15:31

Kate's been waiting all year to use her sled. Granted, it was still basically a stick of lumber when Duck and Geoffrey gave it to her on her birthday last time it snowed. Now, it's the fanciest damn sled the island probably has to offer (at least in her opinion). That isn't made out of candy canes or something insane, that is. Knowing Duck, it's probably aerodynamic and structurally sound and completely made to be shot down the hill at the stage at breakneck speeds. There are a few other people sledding on various things they've borrowed (stolen) but she's especially proud of her sled. It was made with love, although she suspects Geoffrey mainly provided moral support, rather than construction.

Watching Sam dubiously enjoy his first snow has been a test of her acting ability. It just doesn't seem right to laugh at your child. Repeatedly. Even if he face plants every time he tries to walk in the stuff and hasn't decided yet what he thinks of that Santa guy who keeps riding the train with them. Today, however, because she's a terrible mother, she left him with Jack and took off for some fun. She deserves it, dammit. Of course, so does Jack but if she calls it an early birthday present, who's really going to protest? Jack is far, far too smart for that.

As she perches on the top of the hill and breathes in the cold air, it almost feels like home. Well, not really. It almost feels like Canada, not really Toronto specifically. But anyway, it makes her feel very Canadian. And dammit, she's in a good mood. She has a sled and a husband and a baby and a house that looks like Christmas vomited all over it. Couldn't ask for more.

She kicks her feet up against the bar and shoves off with a happy shriek, the scenery a blur of colored lights and trees until she hits the bottom and goes tumbling off, laughing up at the clear sky.

[ooc: Come sledding with Kate! Even if you don't know her. She's far too trusting, anyway. She's out by the stage.]

[ooc: Here's an idea of the sled, since I apparently cannot figure out how the heck to just embed the link in text. *sigh* being stupid is hard.http://static-p.arttoday.com/thw/thw8/PH/cs5359_20040528a/cs5359_20040528a/16446634.thw.jpg?5359_040607_2983 ]
