There was something satisfying in the change of the weather, Sarah found, as if it were some kind of proof she was right about this place. With the exception of Halloween, it had been quiet of late, at least for her, and she'd been so sure a change was coming; things never stayed that peaceful for long, not on the island or off it. As potential ( Read more... )

Dressed in a bright candy coloured sweater and matching trousers with the bright green coat she arrived in, Charlotte Charles stopped next to Sarah on her way to the Compound.

"I think it's pretty," she commented with a self-satisfactory nod. In fact it looked good enough to eat if those sorts of things were advisable. They were not. "Don't you think it's pretty?"

"It's... very pretty," Sarah said, nodding. "Just unexpected. I'm accustomed to this place looking more like a prison than a fairy tale." She was hardly surprised Chuck thought so. She seemed the kind to see the silver lining in everything. It was strangely refreshing.

"True, but I think I like this one better," Chuck declared having decided this at the very moment she saw the Disney-like creation that had taken the place of the compound. Now if only the kitchen hadn't been made too rustic everything would be fine.

"Less doom and gloom."

"Yes," Sarah agreed, ducking her head with a laugh. "And I'd say we could certainly use less of those. Maybe it'll be a nice winter, if this is anything to go by." She wouldn't have minded a little excitement, but all things considered, if this was the worse they had to deal with, she'd be content. Last year, she'd had to ward off some kind of Yeti and she wasn't keen to repeat the performance.

"I hope so too." At that moment a thought struck Charlotte Charles like a bolt of lightning from the blue. Letting out a squeal that satisfied every fiber of her winter-inclined heart, she flailed her arms a bit.

"I have a brilliant idea. We could have Ellie's baby shower this month. Theme it."

"Kind of a Winter Wonderland thing," Sarah said, pointing to Chuck as she caught on to the idea, nodding. "That's a great idea, she'd love that. And we're running out of time anyway." It was hard to believe so much time had already passed, but that wasn't her first concern now. "So this month is perfect."

"Exactly. And we have usable amounts of chocolate and mint and stuff in the pantry." Already Chuck was adjusting the menu she had concocted for the party into something in keeping with the theme.

"Perhaps something next week? So that we don't have to worry about the holidays getting in the way too much."

"Good idea," Sarah said, nodding. "And we can have it right up here at the Compound so it's warm, maybe take over the third floor rec room and decorate." If last year was anything to go by, there would be plenty of material available for decorations, and there was no reason they couldn't co-opt those to make a party for Ellie.

"Oh yes! And it will make it much easier to do the food without the need to trek all over the place and worry about dropping things in the snow."

Not to mention the fact that things got cold rather quick around here when it wasn't hot and sunny. Chuck didn't know which was worse: possible freezing or possible cooling.

"Are we going to make it a surprise or are we warning her?" Sarah asked, grinning. If the former, it would certainly make that easier, too. After all, Ellie's brother spent so much time down there with his friends.

"Well, she sort of already knows that she's getting one. Eventually at least," Chuck confessed being both good at knowing, having and sharing secrets that had been a cat she had readily let out of the bag.

"But I think we should have the timing be a surprise. To make it more fun."

"Surprises are good." Sarah nodded, dragging her toe through the snow at feet. "And it'd be easy to get her down there with how much time her brother spends down there, so... that sounds perfect. We can put up paper snowflakes and lights and things."

"Yes! And glitter everything." Tasteful was not the sort of thing that Chuck felt belonged with surprise parties. Being over the top and adventurous was certainly more in keeping with the feeling.

"It'll be so much fun."

"Well, count me in," Sarah agreed. "Friday or Saturday maybe? It'll give us plenty of time to make sure everyone's prepared and forewarned." There were probably a few of Ellie's friends who weren't ready with gifts for the baby, after all. Even though they could hardly expect everyone to bring one, in light of their location, people would probably still want to try.

"Saturday." Friday seemed a little too soon not that Chuck would have any difficulty being prepared by then. She just wanted to make certain that there would be people willing to add to the surprise.
