Somewhere, between reading some book he'd found-- it wasn't really a book, considering it was called Daughters of Darkness: Lesbian Vampire Stories-- and feeling guilty that it turned him on, 'cos it wasn't his fault that the bouncer at Fangtasia was SMOKIN' hot, somewhere in all of that, Jason had heard something about it being Thanksgiving ( Read more... )

Now that's something you don't see everyday in the lazy island community of Tabula Rasa, and Max finds himself taking an easy detour over to the show.

"Fuck, man, where's the war?" It's a casual question, asked around his latest smoldering cigarette, but there's a certain undeniable pang that accompanies it, too. Pulling the cigarette from his lips, he motions to the guy with it as he exhales. "If that's for vampires, I think there are some people around here who might have something to say about it."

"It's a war on boredom," Jason drawled. "Or something." All the testosterone in the anticipated activity kept the homesickness down where it belonged. "Fuck, man, it's Thanksgiving. Not a lot of turkeys to hunt, so I'm looking to bag something big."

He grinned.

"Vamps are too scrawny. Plus, my sister back home is dating one. Can't hunt them 'til there's a break-up."

"You know, no matter how long I live in this place, hearing shit like that never seems normal," Max replies with a friendly snort of laughter. One of his best friends used to be a grim reaper; you'd think he'd be used to the strange and unusual.

"How big is big? Are we talking giant boar big, or T-Rex big?"

"As big as we can take down," Jason advised. "'cos that's the American fuckin' spirit, baby." He hefted the spear. "Of course, I ain't never been spear hunting, so it could get rough."

Out of Jason's mouth, it sounded like a bonus.

"I got to be honest with you, man," Max begins, his increasingly dubious gaze following the path of the brandished spear, "I don't think hunting dinosaurs with a spear is going to do much other than make you wish you had a gun." Somewhere out there, there is a mighty warrior capable of hitting a T-Rex in the eye or mouth or other soft tissue; this guy is enthusiastic but certainly not him.

"Really?" Jason was a bit crest-fallen. "Man, I wish this place would give me a gun." He poked the spear at the dirt. "Fucking lame."
