Chase isn't exactly feeling fully up to par, but he's not dying, he's not dead and he's definitely not sick. This means that he's actually probably in better shape than a great deal of the actual population of the world, so he's not going to complain. He's managed to get enough food for a small gathering outside the Treehouse (while making absolute sure that there were no strawberries in anything, because he didn't want a second attack in the same month after going years without one).
It's not like he's an incredible chef, but he had pulled off cookies, a cake, and some tea and brought it back with him after passing the word to various friends of the Doctor that it was a party to honour his birthday. Chase knew it was for his own birthday, to an extent, but it wasn't like waving hello to thirty-two while thirty-one drifted away was all that important to him.
It was more the Doctor that he cared about. Chase kept Nate in his arms and swayed him slightly as he walked around, trying to get him to calm down from the unexpected sugar rush from feeding maybe one too many cookies to him.
As far as birthday parties went, it was probably heavily on the really lame side, but Chase hadn't exactly spent his birthdays doing much beyond sitting beside a phone and waiting for a call that never came. He was pretty sure that earned him a lot of points to make up for the fact that he couldn't plan a party for shit.
