Meredith's not a big fan of her birthday, less so than usual today, although she honestly doesn't care much about turning thirty. A year's a year and the only thing this birthday means to her is another way of marking how long she's been away from Seattle, which would suck enough even if she were in a better mood.
But it's Ellie's birthday, too, and they've set up shop outside her place, a table covered with all the things she's put together to celebrate. Meredith figures Ellie shouldn't have had to work like that to set up for her own birthday party, but it's better her than Mere, and everything looks delicious, par for the course when Ellie's the one doing the cooking. She might not feel that much like celebrating, but for Ellie's sake, she means to try. They've invited their friends to join them and the way Meredith sees it, a casual late afternoon celebration is probably the best possible option when it comes to birthdays. For one thing, it might actually be fun.
[Two-for-one birthday gathering. Any and all friends of Ellie and/or Meredith are welcome to attend. Tag in and tag each other!]
