Graham Dalton wasn't the party type. He hadn't been for a very long time. The last few he'd been dragged to, he spent the night sitting in a darkened corner, on a couch or even on the floor, watching from a safe distance, waiting until maybe someone interesting came to him.

But the day was too interesting to play the shut-in, and he ventured out while it was still light, wandering to the compound and taking a detour to the clothes box when he saw the party announcement on the bulletin board.

So he ended up on a side of the island he rarely went to, weaving in and out of a crowd of mostly strangers, camera bag slung over his shoulder and dressed as a priest.

In a twisted way, it was kind of appropriate.

Jen really loves her costume, even though the wig's making her head a little hot. What she hasn't anticipated, though, is how the big wide skirt is making it a little difficult to navigate her way through the crowd. She's trying to work her way over to the bar when she gets a little jostled and ends up stumbling and practically falling into some guy dressed like a priest who looks just like James Spader. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry," she says with an embarrassed smile, trying not to fall completely onto him. "I'm starting to think maybe this costume wasn't a good idea."

"No, ah-- No harm done," he said with a friendly smile, brushing a drop of his splattered drink from his shirt after he'd made sure she was steady on her feet. "I'm not... well, I'm not sure but I think that costume might be worth the inconvenience."

She's pretty much gotten used to seeing famous people who are actually one of the characters they've played, but every once in a while she runs into someone who gets her a little starstruck, and James Spader fits that category. Jen smiles shyly once she's solidly on both feet and smooths her skirts. "Oh, uh, thanks," she replies, hoping that was actually a compliment and she didn't just make herself look like a weirdo by thanking him. "I just really love the movie, and I've never really done anything quite this, uh, big for Halloween so I figured why not."

"This seems to be the year for it," he said with a huff of laughter and a quick look around. Big didn't begin to cover it.

"I'm Graham. Graham Dalton. I, ah-- I don't believe we've met."

"No, I don't think so," Jen says, offering a hand. "I'm Jen. It's good to meet you, Graham. Is this your first Halloween on the island?"

He gave her hand a brief and friendly shake, and though it was warm, there was something nervous and abrupt in it. Like someone not entirely comfortable with physical contact.

"It is. I'd heard stories but," he laughed, "I don't think I was expecting this."

His handshake is kind of short, but Jen doesn't think much of it; everyone shakes hands differently. "Me too," she replies. "I mean, it's my first Halloween too. I just missed it last year; I got here in November."

The child left with family, Jenny had donned costume (though she had had to have the custom explained to her). She had come dressed as what she supposed was supposed to be a Lady of the Lake, bodice low cut, glitter smeared across her face and green and blue shimmering streamers in her black hair. She even carried a sword, though it was poor imitation of dear Excalibur.

When she saw him, she smiled and dropped a low curtsy.

"Well met, Graham Dalton."

"Jenny," he said, returning the curtsy with a bow of his head. "You look, ah--" he coughed out a laugh, running his fingers through his hair and giving her an appreciative nod, "Well, you look amazing."

"Amazing, but not accurate," she said, twisting her hair around her fingers. "Nimue would turn in her grave if she was in it, I fear."

"Well, I-- I'm not sure you could call any of this, ah... accurate," he said with a flicker of a smile, his hand drifting over the white collar at his neck.
