"D'ye know where I could find one?" Scotty said hopefully. He was seriously beginning to think that might be the only feasible option. Of course, that'd make it more of a pain to put back together again, but never let it be said there wasn't a mess Montgomery Scott couldn't fix. And that went double for the ones he'd caused to begin with.
He leaned over the bookcase and stretched out a hand. "We've not talked before, have we? I'm Scotty."
"Kendra Shaw," she said, stepping over to shake his hand, firm and brief. "There's a storeroom a few levels down," she informed him crisply. "I believe there's a sledgehammer in there, if you really want to destroy that thing."
"Great!" Scotty said, scrambling to his feet. It was a shame to have to resort to such drastic measures, but if that was what the situation demanded, that was how it'd have to be.
He paused by the door, glancing back over his shoulder. "Coming along?"
Scotty laughed. "Nice to know I've got an audience!"
He'd been exploring round the buildings long enough to know the way round - he had a very good memory for directions - and quickly found his way down to the storeroom.
"Ah, here we are," he said, navigating his way around the various clutter and hefting a satisfyingly weighty sledgehammer. "If this doesn't take it apart, nothing will."
"Never say die!" Scotty said, balancing the sledgehammer on his shoulder as he walked back up to the rec room. He turned to Kendra, realising he'd been a bit rude in just carrying on like she was hardly there.
"Caprica," she said. "Originally. The Battlestar Pegasus, most recently."
She left out the destruction of the colonies. It didn't seem immediately pertinent, and it might distract him from failing to take apart the bookshelf. "You?"
"Not a corner of the universe I'm familiar with, that, but it is a very big universe," Scotty said. And that was even presuming she was from the same one he knew - which given she looked fairly human-shaped and was talking about Battlestars, a name he'd never had come up in his history books, was a definite possibility.
"As for me - Linlithgow, Glasgow, and then, these days, space," Scotty said. "I go anywhere my job takes me, really." He sighed. "I'd just settled in with a really good new crew, too, and an absolute beauty of a ship that came with 'em, and then - zap! One crossed wire and here I am."
"Substitue 'bang' for 'zap,' and my story's more or less the same," she said, although she might have been less enthusiastic about the crew, if pressed.
They were good, though. She couldn't deny that, however much she might like to.
"Maybe if you found a sledgehammer," she said, in a tone that suggested she didn't believe that would work either.

It was true, though. There was the strong possibility this was going to go badly, and she had a certain appreciation for watching that sort of thing.

It was almost strangely hypnotic.
