Maureen straightened up and cinched the robe at her waist before giving him a sheepish smile. "Yeah, I'm fine," she said. "Turns out these things aren't made for off-road." She bent over and picked up her bag, slung it over her shoulder again.

Maureen wasn't embarrassed about having flashed him, but having been caught stumbling in high heels was an entirely different story.

She looked down at her shoes and sighed. "You're right," she said. "Here, do you mind?" She held out the bag for him so that she could take off her shoes. "Nah, I don't think it's bad, I just need to wash it. Though if you'd like to escort me home... it is dark. I'm not far from here."

Maureen probably wouldn't have taken him for only seventeen, and him saying that he was a mercenary didn't exactly divest her of that incorrect assumption. She laughed. "Extra points, yes, and also for having something interesting to say. Me, hmmmm... New York City by way of a small town. Performer... singer, actress. Trouble paying the rent. I guess that about sums it up until here."

"New York's a fantastic place to live," Maureen said. "It's so alive, you know? Id planned for a while to move to L.A. eventually and try to be a real actress, but I'm not sure I really would have wanted to move."
