Psych? As in “Gotcha”?

If you build it, they will come.Shawn had to wonder: if you got others to do a majority of the building for you, would 'they' still come? It didn't really matter either way - he obviously didn't need to rely on solving cases to keep food on the table and a roof over his head anymore - but knowing that didn't make him any less curious ( Read more... )

Frank would be lying if he said he wasn't a bit disappointed that Shawn wasn't wearing a t-shirt with a similar message to the dog's. He'd seen this place a couple of times while Michael had been working on it but now, with the window in pride of place, he had to admit it wasn't too bad.

He stuck his head inside, surveyed Shawn's desk, then pulled it out again. "What, no free kisses this time?" A booth was just what was needed. "Now there's an advertising stunt if ever I heard one." It was practically a win-win situation.

"Huh... Didn't even think of that." Clearly, he was losing his touch. "He'd probably give you one if you asked nicely," Shawn said, motioning to Lassie with the trowel he had in hand. The dog looked up just then and barked, tail wagging, muzzle covered in dirt.

"I think that's Golden Retriever for 'pucker up!'."

Frank's gaze dropped to the dog but instead of making a move to pet him or pick him up like he usually would, he slipped his hands safely into his pockets. Something told him it'd be like trying to hold a dog version of Shawn himself - all wriggly, energetic and far beyond Frank's control.

"I think I'll pass," he told the dog, wondering exactly what man and pet were doing that had gotten at least one of them so covered in dirt. He looked back up to Shawn. "I had a kiss from a poodle earlier so I'm set."

"Standard, miniature or toy?" Shawn asked, because somehow the American Kennel Club's size definitions for the breed made a difference. It was anyone's guess why.

Lassie didn't seem to mind the rejection, and went right back to digging.

"...A small one?" Frank ventured, not having been prepared for questioning on a subject that wasn't even true. "I don't tend to keep track..." That didn't sound weird at all.

"Kissed a lot of poodles in your day, huh?" It wasn't his fault Frank just totally made himself sound like a player. A poodle player. "Well, as long as they know you're not looking for anything exclusive right off the bat, I guess there's no harm." The toy ones were already prone to heart-disease, no need to add heartbreak to the mix, too.

"......So," Frank clapped his hands together, deciding to ignore the poodle talk in favour of...pretty much anything else. "Trowel, soil, magic beans. Are you planting a giant beanstalk, Jack?"
